Hi all...
My sister in law brought a Daihatsu applause last week. The car now has knocks coming from underneath, is running rough and is gutless. When we rang the car dealer they didn't seem interested. I'm just wondering where we stand with the statutory warranty that comes compulsory with any car purchased over $2000. Does anyone know what these warranties cover and what has to be repaired under these warranties??? Cheers.

Dont worry about what is written in the dealers warranty, the statuatoy warranty overides them.
If you are a member of the RAC they are very helpfull in this area. I got a new set of rotors for my GTP earlier this year on the basis of an RAC, report even though the car yard warranty excluded them. |

A Statutory warranty is only applied to vehicles less than 10 years old. Is it?

When I bought my last Fairlane an AU S2 here in Brisbane the power steering pump leaked oil within 2 days so I took it back to the car yard and it took them 3 days to do a 30 minute job and after complaining the manager told me he is entitled to hold the car for 2 weeks to complete the work ( I guess warrantee work is low priority) any way it was fixed and works perfectly
thanks John |

I was talking to someone on friday night who got a BA (i think) fairlane, he took it back to the car yard and complained about the drivers seat (he got it from a Mazda dealership), they said they couldnt do anything about it. anyway he took it to a ford dealer and $2,000 later on warranty it was repaired lol. (not sure if it was coverd under ford new car warranty tho)

if the car is not roadworthy to the letter of the law the onus is on the seller to make the car roadworthy. you can have the r.t.a. fail the car, and then goto fair trading, and sue the dealer..

Thanks for your replies.
Unfortunately W.A. is a bit behind the times and don't need a road worthy certificate. The car has only 100000km on it so the warranty will apply. I will let her know to try the rac report and see how she goes with it. Cheers.

I recently bought a AU II wagon and 1 day after picking it up it started playing up. Turned out to be a TPS problem . Anyway there was no warranty at all on the car but the car yard was only too happy to have a mechanic check it out and rectify the problem at their cost. I was surprised and impressed. I think most car yards would tell you to go jump!
