WTF is going on with hybrids suddenly? Are they giving away free vouchers to the local brothel with each one sold?

They are good. Got enough power and use no fuel.
I took my mums rav 4 on a 1000km round trip. Used 3.9lph. If I took my territory it would have done 12lph. And I recon the rav would be very close on the overtake. |

I think hybrids are having a mini resurgence. Looks like people are starting to realise EV's aren't as cheap as marketed and plug in hybrids solve a lot of the range anxiety phobia and refuelling wait times if you can't charge at home.

The RAV4 hybrid is a good car. Drives surprisingly well. It goes easy on the fuel around town. Hybrid payback time is around 3 years. Plus, Toyota have unblocked their supply chain quite a bit. Down to four month wait for the average mum and dad who walks into a Toyota dealer for a RAV4.
Ford Everest is what, typically 12 -15 months for certain models? |

Another good month for Ranger plus Everest with close to 7,000 combined sales.
I wonder how long RAV4 hybrid buyers were waiting for their vehicles, looks like almost a full boat load sold last month. Good for Toyota and maybe other brands will catch on that a decent petrol hybrid is now probably a better bet in light duty passenger SUVs and cars. |

Wasnt that long ago that people were hanging shit on Toyota for holding off the switch to full EV vehicles in its range in favour of hybrid.
I guess Toyota know something about what the market wants and needs after all. |

So RAV4 and Corolla in the top 4 on the back of Hybrids.
Are you telling me with all the resources of Ford they can't make a better Hybrid, Escape and Focus in every aspect. Power, Interior, Looks, Style, ect ect. in a Hybrid. 2025 Maverick updated. No Export or RHD. WTF. How come F150 doesn't cannibalise sales of Ranger but Maverick would? Where the hell is the updated Mustang in RHD, is it even coming. Looks like their next priority is to make a Hypercar to compete at La Mans......what are they doing.

They are just a very good commodity seller and smart, posters here don't like that and look to jump on any thing to bring them down but they will always come back up they have proven so for decades.....sure they have their flaws but what global company doesn't. Not my cup of tea ride wise even though I still own a ol 2010 4x4 Hilux that serves its use perfectly from time to time but the general consumer keeps buying no matter they get behind ie Hilux compared to Ranger, Corolla to all other competitors and RAV4 proves once stocks arrive they are out the door. Staggered by their overall numbers - 22k is the bottom 4 combined and a little into Mitsu's numbers. Those poor 4101 MG buyers, good luck flip them short term I say haha. Had a business associate turn up with one from the airport the other day, going to lunch I sat in the back, you could hear rattles, feel the bumps and sounded "tinny". Obviously price prevails. The Kinglong will do everything that the Volvo can, just nowhere near as well. Its slow, bumpy, noisy, pneumatics are slow, the climate air varies 5* either side of the set temp so 1 minute its freezing, the next youre cooked. About 80k cheaper to buy and whilst it looks great and has fancy changeable mood LED lighting throughout, the build quality is obvious |

If sales suddenly tank they'll have no qualms in leaving. Not supplying Australia would hardly make a dent in their business I'd imagine.

If they weren't worried about leaving Australia/NZ, then why did they kick up a huge stink and try lobby our federal government about concessions to the NVES? |

That's why I said 'if' sales tanked, then they would likely feel differently. For the time being they are trying to protect their golden goose, and in the US they are trying to limit the amount they will need to spend on credits with the likes of Tesla. It's the only reason they made the comment about small cars. They don't actually care what size car people drive. It's about limiting the damage that govt policy will cause. They'd rather people drive the most expensive models.

Ford has found that its bigger ICE vehicles make more profits than smaller vehicles but when it comes to BEVs, the reverse is true, Ford thinks it will make more profit by producing small vehicles with smaller batteries than larger vehicles with giant batteries. Well that’s the plan now……..who knows if it stays true in the future. Lobbying for concessions is cheaper than closing up shop years early, there still a heap of profitable years left in Ranger and Everest. The way Ford now reports quarterly earnings as Ford Blue, Ford Pro and Model E prevents outsiders knowing how various regions around the world perform so no data on profit this region makes…….. I’m betting that our region is vey profitable with a ton of higher series Rangers and Everests. Last edited by jpd80; 07-08-2024 at 03:38 PM. |

Sorry, ran out of time with the above, with regards Ford regional profits,
I’m hoping there’s a way someone can steer us in the right direction Re Ford Australia profits, they gotta be making good profits these day and it would be nuts to let a few misguided government advisers destroy those profits. |

Ford have all their eggs in the one basket.
They were The Falcon Company. They're now almost 100% dependent on the Ranger-Everest Platform. One bad build year could see the entire thing come tumbling down Toyota have strong performers in almost very segment. The RAV-4 sells like hotcakes. The Ford Escape has essentially died without a whimper in Australia despite being a very decent car that unlike many of the mid-sized SUVs, is an enjoyable drive. Also one of few cars in its segment that has a torque-converter in it, as opposed to a bloody CVT. Of course, nobody knows that because Ford's marketing department have still not improved one bit over the past 15 years. I think the Everest is a decent car, but too big for me. I have no need for a Ranger. Too impractical anyway. Ford has neglected too many market segments. The mid-range SUV is fertile ground, but you aren't going to pull people away from a Rav-4 or CX-5 if you don't give them an active reason to do so. The driving dynamics, the drivetrain, the styling etc. should all have been hammered home. The RAV-4 styling is fine (IMO), but the drivetrain is inferior, and the handling is reportedly quite mundane. Despite that, people run towards them like Homer and the ice-cream truck. I wish Ford supported their models more. The Focus also deserved better. The final models had fixed the DSG issues and replaced with a traditional box, but I guarantee that 99% of people wouldn't know. For Ford's sake, I just hope the Ranger and Everest are always decent relative to their opposition, or they're going to be caught with their pants down again, or completely ripped off as in the case of Holden.

4L/100km without charging worry, does the SUV thing with 2 box practicality, good ownership proposition with Toyota resale, I can see why they sell like hotcakes. Only quibbles might be CVT and not a real AWD, but most don't care about that. RAV4 is understandable in the sales as they finally get the supply. Those blue pin striped seats on the XSE are phwoar! like Japanese 90s trim fetishists dream.
We're never getting the Territory handling balance at that price point again so the head could well say RAV4 while the heart might want Suby AWD. Edit: here's a snow battle comparison - if only we got the Wilderness pack! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo_urCFmY_I
