Pretty good writeup. I'm glad they gave it a good wrap.

I was under the impression that the new Mondeo was built on the EUCD platform, not the CD3 platform the Mazda 6 is based on. It's a compliment either way though.

Really should have given XR5 different wheels, not just 17inch version of the other models. Or given the other models different wheels.

I think that was more reference to the new version of the M6... not the current...

But as you say, it was a very good write up!

Sounds good good good

Zebby I agree, also some dark-background headlights would be good too instead of all chromed ones.

Saw a Mondeo on the road today for the first time (on Nepean Highway, Vic), judging from those pics it was a Zetec in that color blue. Didnt have the visual punch of the XR5/'Bond-eo' that apperaed in Casino Royale, but a nice looking car nonetheless.

As other have said, its a shame all cars share the same alloy wheels (albeit in different sizes) Focus XR5s and pics of Orion XRs also have those wheels, looks like we might be pretty sick of them real soon!

They are actually 18in versions of the zetec's 17s.

But dont worry, Ford is being very conservative and keeping its cards close to its chest with the Mondeo, treading carefully for the first 6 months.

over the next year expect a large range of 'special packs' coming out including various wheel designs and optional features...

check ford.co.uk to see what the poms get that we dont ;-)

Mondeo is easily 2007's best looking car; if not THE best car out all year ( except Evo X DROOOL)

Wheels are incorrect about the Mondeo sharing the Mazda6 platform, the new Mondeo is based off the EUCD platform which underpins the S-Max, Galaxy, and Volvo S80.

The new Mazda6 is based off a modified version of the old Mazda6 platform.

Don't really like the Mazda 6 - looks weird. I especially don't like the sedan - the have the rising body and then they top it up with a massive boot. Mondeo sedan looks retarded, just not as retarded.

And if you want a manual you have to spend up big for a XR5. Not good.

I haven't seen one advert for the new Mondeo yet. Does Ford really want to sell them? They should be riding high on all the good reviews.

I don't think they're properly released. You can expect another "European engineered" thing, that has sold oh-so-many Fords in the past. It's like Ford isn't proud of being Australian, and saying Germans can design cars better than us (which they can, but its not something to crow about!)
Bucket - you sure you saw a manual? Interesting....

I'm a big fan of the Mondeo (in fact, I'd take it over a Falcon, probably even Orion), so it's good to see it getting positive press here.

I wish they offered a proper gearbox in all models, but hell, that's a bargain price for the Mondeo LX.

I've compared the dimensions of the Mondeo to the Falcon, and there's not much in it, in fact, the Mondeo's larger in many key areas (the only main one it's shorter in is length, and the Mondeo doesn't have to worry about a big north-south I6 engine).

To be honest, I believe that to many people, it won't be worth spending the extra for the Falcon, when a base Mondeo with the Cruise pack is a few thousand cheaper than the Falcon, better on fuel than the Falcon, about the same size as the Falcon, enough performance for most drivers, and will most likely hold its value much better than the Falcon.

Bring it on, but I wish our lineup wasn't crippled (no radar cruise, manual, etc) just so it wouldn't compete with the Falcon.

The Mondeo looks great and provides a real alternative to the Mazda 6 and even that bloody Corolla.

I hope that people like Smithy in the Herald Bumb share the view and advise buyers to at least try it out as it appears that some people simply decide they want a certain car despite knowing nothing about it...Holden Barina for example!

One more thing that is definitely likely to swing a few buyers to the Mondeo is the fact that stability control is standard in the Mondeo, but optional on the Falcon (yes, I know, it's an inexpensive option, but still).

NZ must get a different spec base model than Australia, NZ doesn't have the LX nametag, just "Mondeo" and we get full power windows and cruise on it too. Though Ford NZ would be going backwards if they didn't offer those items as the previous Mondeo had them standard on the base model.

I reckon Mondeo is a real contender for Wheels COTY.
