Default Well done Harold Scruby

Is this guy just a media suck off or what???

OK, not only is he the biggest pain in our backsides because he thinks we should drive two cylinder cars with a million electronic devices to stop crashes as well as GPS tracked speed limits, but all the sudden he's become head of some mob who want to change the flag.

He was on Sunrise not too long ago say our flag promotes the Union Jack too much?

His idea was to move the Federation Star up to where the Union Jack currently sits and make it yellow.

Harold woke up one morning and thought:
change the national anthem to john paul youngs love is in the air
change the flag to a large gray sheet with a recliner on it
change the speed limits to nil, and push your car to work

However my take is this
change the national anthem to AC/DC's we've got big balls
change the flag to a large red sheet with 6 barrels on it
Bring in compulsory euthenasia for anyone whos pants touch their nipples..... and anyone who drives a camry.

Yellow was the original star colour on the anti-transportation leagues flag all those years ago, so it makes some sense.

However we only recently had the republic debate and it went absolutely nowhere.

Harold is a media tart who would push his own grandmother down the stairs to get on TV for 90 seconds. And sunrise will put idiots like this on tv and call him an intelluctual.

why do we need to change the flag - i realise i am biased with the colours, but has he not heard of tradition. our flag is red, white and blue, our sporting costumes are gold and green - why change for the sake of it. we will lose what little identity we have. our olympians looked like they were from any number of countries walking out into the stadium - our cricketers look like south africans during play and indians between the innings with that fantastic new blue shirt. why not leave everything alone - it has worked for years quite well

the objection I have to changing the flag is many soldiers fought and some died under this flag to change the flag would disshouour them!

Just like those who want Australia to become a republic, what advantage will it give us? ABSOLUTELY NONE! Our country wont miracuously change over night will it? All it will do is cost an absolute fortune to change our currency, government stationary, legal and court stationary and protcol..the list goes on. In my opinion, If it ain't broke, DON'T try to fix it.
Scrubey does have way too much time on his hands though.

On the flip side of this though is people fight for a country and beliefs, not a flag. I have heard a few old diggers say this (the republican ones I guess).

funny how all of the people who support changing our flag/anthem/national identity either don't understand what they stand for or have never done anything substantial for their country. if you don't like it the way it is.....leave.

Change for the sake of change. I guess there is some history in the union jack and it wouldn't be the favourite reminder for mick catholics and europeans who have had their ***** handed to them over the centuries by the poms.

I remember how the Maple Leaf flag was touted to be the rallying focus for a better and ethnically united Canada.... yeah well that worked well didn't it.

Leave it alone and tell the Kiwis to change theirs instead.

So the only people who have a say about this country are those that served in the military? The military exist to defend democracy, not to replace it. The bloke at centrelink scratching his bum has as much right to support whatever proposals he wishes, no matter how stupid. If you dont like that, maybe you should leave ay?

So the blokes that fought, but didnt die, dont deserve to be honoured, but the blokes who did die do. Or do they deserve to be honoured only as long as they agree with you? Are you sure the dead blokes agree with you? How many of the dead blokes will vote at the next referendum?

Flags are representative of their countries, if a flag is considered no longer representative, it is the right of the citizens to change their flag. Maybe Russia should still have the Communist Flag to honour the dead of Leningrad? When the flag was decided to no longer be representative, it was changed.

Personally, i dont care if it changes or not, but its up to the citizens to decide.

Considering todays culture, I think our most likely method for change will be reality tv show. SMS Flag1 to 1900-AUSTRALIA-FLAG now. Dicko can host.

I served in the Military. And I would like the flag changed.

As stated by sourbastard:

I didn't join to fight for the flag. I joined to fight for my country. To me the Union Jack in the corner represents The Queen and or Great Britain. I think our country is mature enough not to need these ties back to her or it.

We need a flag that represents what Australia is or has become.

But this is an argument that can probably go on forever......

Yes, spot on.

The argument past and present soldiers will be dishonoured if the flag is changed is ridiculous. They didn't fight for the flag itself and it's pommy emblem, they fought and died for the nation it represents - which is NOT an English colony anymore (and hasn't been for more than a generation or two)
