http://jalopnik.com/the-volvo-concep...-sh-1531777678 What a stunner, I would put more pics but too many here whine about picture sizes (buy a bigger monitor). That interior is just perfect, pure elegance. Don't change a thing Volvo, build it like that and take my $$

That is pure elegance and reminds me of the Volvo Simon Templar (aka The Saint) drove in the tv series.

Can someone please enlighten a simple man that doesn't drown himself in car magazines anymore when plain old station wagons became far more romantic sounding 'shooting brakes'? I'm not being derogatory about this actual vehicle, it's pretty darn horn no matter how you describe it I can't get used to being attracted to Volvo's.....theres something distinctly weird about it.

More recently has come to be used to describe the estate, or station wagon or a 3 door coupe like wagon. Its cooler than station wagon too. Nice car as well JP |

It is awesome! The difference between a shooting brake and a wagon for me is most of the time a SB will have two doors. Its more about styling than functionality, I think merc have muddied the waters but an example is this versus say a 850R. Also custom places would modifiy ferrari and astons to a SB which would naturally be nothing like a normal wagon.
Volvo is on a winner if thier cars start looking like that.

I like most of the car except the dash, like one of the brightly colored vf commodore interiors, I reckon you would need a welding mask on a bright sunny day(exaggeration ....but you know what I mean), lots of glare and reflections , probably useless at times............ what looks pretty sometimes sucks.

Shooting brake normally applies to a sporting version of a normal sedan.
What the hell have they been putting in the water at Volvo...? We used to laugh at them and say things like "It'll probably look nice when they take it out of the box", and things like that. Now they're a seriously nice looking range of cars. |

As we all know, production cars rarely look much like the concept that proceeds them. The thing I'm wondering about with this one is that it looks to have a longitudinal mounted engine and RWD. Check the massive dash to axle ratio and short front overhang - that's why it looks so good! Surely Volvo wont be going back to RWD?

Incredible. What a stunning design.
In practical terms, room for self, friend and snow/surfboards. What more could you want? Like a ute except secure storage for longer items. A little factoid, when the Falcon was first released (XK) the American version had a 2 door station wagon. If that's the future then bring it on. |

Now that I look at it closer, there is a lot of the stunning old Volvo P1800 from then sixties (The Saints car from the old Roger Moore TV series) about the design.

The interior looks like a perfect blend of retro chic combined with an ultra modern look. It could have gone horribly wrong but it looks spectacular. The outside looks fantastic, too. The only criticism I could give it would be that it compromises some interior space in the name of gorgeous lines.. a compromise I certainly could live with.

"Shooting brake"
AKA "Wagon" Shooting brake sounds like a yuppy term for a wagon which people who sip latte's and carry their little dog in a handbag would use and complain that their chai latte isn't organic or some ****. Other than that, very nice looking ride (Y) |

Enter the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake. Based on the CLS sedan (or four-door ''coupe'', as Mercedes refers to it) the Shooting Brake gets the same wide-mouthed grille and low roof line. But it carries the coupe-like silhouette back to an extended wagon, or Shooting Brake. The name is derived from that given to cars created for hunters in England who wanted a practical car that was also sporty enough to cover ground quickly.

glass roof could be interesting in Oz but then there is now self tinting glass so why not use that in roof.

2 things
1. Whatever it is that the volvo designers are smoking. Marketing need to buy more of it and keep them well stocked. 2. The beancounters must must not be allowed to intervene. They must must be bound and tied and shipped off to the South pole until this is in the showroom floors. |

I saw a Mercedes shooting brake on the princess yesterday, was a dark matte grey, black rims. It was honestly one of the nicest looking cars I've seen in a long time. I like this shooting brake style
