Nokia 6110 Navigator, howto setup?

Guys

Ive got the above phone but the navigator never seems to want to work, do I have to do something specific to set it up? Im with Virgin if that helps

i have the same phone

but i am not with virgin ( dont think that would be the prob )

in the 6110 it is a stand alone gps reason i went with it for some reason it does take a while to log onto the network i would give it a good 2-3 mins to find the satalites ect

mine depending on conditions can take a good 4-5 mins to log on

if it doesnt log on in that time you may have a faulty unit

G'day mate ive got one of these phones, and found a firmware update helped alot. It can make a difference sometimes, depending on the errors you are getting.

You can also update the Route66 software for these phones, I think you get a free update for the Australian maps too (can't remember the exact update I got free, I think it was Q42006 or something like that). You have to install the Route66 software from the CD that came with the phone, then update from there.

I also think by default these phones have what it called ActiveGPS, which downloads a list of satellite locations to aid with GPS locating (ie supposed to make it quicker etc). You could check to see if it is enabled, and if not enable it and see if it can connect to GPS. Without this enabled, it can take a couple of minutes to get a GPS fix.

To check if it's enabled or not, you go into the Navigator application, then Options > Settings > Extras > Network Connection. It does cost extra, however, because it is considered the same as a data download.

also b2tf, when you are first getting GPS signal, make sure you are either outside or close to a window.

Also pays to note that like the n95 you must have slide the keypad out when using it for navigation as the the GPS receiver is under the 8 button.

I use the same phone and its excellent, Ive got red light cameras etc all loaded in as well
The delay is because the gps receiver in the phone takes a bit but once it grabs it, it works quick the next few times.

You can quicken it up buy turning on a feature that allows the phone to connect using the internet and it finds you in the matter of seconds im led to believe, but then it costs DATA on your plan which can cost alot depending on what data amounts you have on your plan.

As above update the firmware. And i find the maps not tooo bad, but will be looking for the update when its about. Its not the best fora pure street navigator, but is very handy still if you don't have one.

I have the same phone on Virgin and no problem,
The GPS will take some time if you shut it down say on the Gold coast and then try to use it again in Brisbane the phone still thinks its on the Gold Coast, they find themselves quicker if they are turn off and on in similar places.

I would take it back to where you bought it.
