Unhappy new superlites and yokos a mistake on capri

I have just enhanced the look of my very straight 3000GT tenfold by swapping the original steels with chrome for a set of 13 X 6 superlites and putting Yokohama 205/60/13 all round. However they rub as soon as I cross a spoon drain or a dip on a fast section. Do I stiffen the very original suspension or put on the old 185/65/13 rubber. Don't really want to roll the gaurds as its a very stock car. Stupid mistake I made with my old capri in the 70's as well.

Do they rub both sides at the same time?
Front or rear?

What is your current suspension setup?

It rubs front and back on dips at speed and worries the front on the inside on spoondrains. Front MacPherson Strut and rear leaf springs and shocks. I am a bit of a spanner when it comes to hands on motors so I use the workshop manual.

Sounds like they are the wrong offset. Sure they are not for a Cortina? Where are they rubbing? On the strut, inner wheel well or on the outer edge of the guards? A pic might help explain.

Good point rag top they have a lot of travel and I dont have more than recent history. Now whooligan what is the offset refer to. an angle somewher I guess. When turning into spoons it feels like guards. Ill get a photo soon as.

Thanks R T I have some work to do it seems, those articles hit the spot. Fortunately (or not I am taking it off the road for some seats refurb and dash doctoring so will get onto it. Pretty sure they are for capris as well as corts seen them on em and I would hope the guy at the performance wheels factory knew what he was talking about when I checked out the range they had. Couldnt find a retailer that even had a brochure let alone a sample.

I have found out the hard way that escort rims and cortina rims have a slightly different offset. Not sure as to the capri though.

Capri and Escort have the same offset, although the Capri has more clearance in the wheel arches. Cortinas vary. The early Mk 1 & Mk 2 Cortinas are the same as Capri and Escort, but the Mk3 (TC/TD) Cortinas have a different offset again. Basically the offset is how far the centre of the wheel sit left or right of the mating edge (ie wheel hub at the front, drum at the back.) If the offest is too deep the rims scrap on the inner guards or calipers so you have to use spacers to move them out. This can subsequently have problems with clearance on the guard edges, thats why people fit flared arches or roll the lips so the edge of the tyre doesn't catch when it moves up and down in the wheel well.
Performance Superlites can be ordered in whatever offset you like and are drilled to suit the stud patten of your car. Even though the Cortina/Escort/Capri stud pattern is the same, offsets can vary quite a bit with different brake and suspension mods, and with a car as old as a Capri, its not always gonna be as standard as you think. You have to be very careful when buying mag wheels, thats why I don't buy anything wider than 6 inches unless I'm putting it on something I know will swallow 'em....Like an X-Pack RS2000 or Cologne Capri. What you need is some fatboy arches like my V8 project....10' rubber, baby.

Hopefully I have attached correctly.
Some arches can look crap and wreck the clean flow that Henry meant. They look great on Esky's most of the time. Whooligan yours look cool but a bit of arty effort required I would think. I see a perana won historic at the classic Adelaide add another in the top 10 outright the V8's are obvioiusly slick.
Rolling edges doesn't change the shape of the arches from the outside just folds the lip back on itself does it?
sorry i may have posted photos twice if at all.
Another subject, is the spline(the bit that drives the wiper) out of the windscreen wiper easy to replace.

I didn't have much choice with my V8 Project, the arches were done long time before I bought it. Have to accommodate an 8.5 inch BW diff (unshortened) and custom front struts with lowered springs. The work done is based on the SA Gunston Perana that dominated the tracks in the early 70's.....but thats beside the point. Oh, did Bruce Paix compete in his Yellow Perana?

I can see you could roll the arches and gain half an inch clearance. Looks like your fronts need spacing a little bit. Personally I'd drop tyre sizes, which will effect the speedo calibration, but then again, I never check the speedo anyway. Maybe fit ht. adjustable rear shocks. I think even replacing them will improve it. Your car doesn't look too low....Nice one by the way.

Wiper motor is a behatch to remove and replace...even find second-hand. Involves pulling all the dash apart....Just one of the many joys of Capri ownership. Need any help finding bits, send me a PM. I have a shed full of bits and the Capri Club of Vic parts officer 5 minutes down the road.

Yeah i would try rolling the guards, or as suggested go slightly lower profile or narrower. Our Capri with 195's on 5.5's has a fair bit of room.

Off topic Nice looking GT, which Green is that? We just bought a Jewel Green GT and trying to work out the right paint scheme for it (Recently resprayed, but it's currently stripe-less and blackout-less)

Not sure if it was Bruce's Perana or not. The Coopers racing V8 looked very nice and came 8th or 9th. Saw a few in the city during the cavalcade but tough to tell as I don't know enough about them but am willing to learn. By the way, how is the price for a brit retro ford mag.
Have seen a quote for $40 a corner for rolling, how does that sound? Would you use a come to you mob?
The colour is Peppermint Green which I believed to be a rare colour (as in less than 10) until a fellow followed me checking to see if I'd pinched his identical GT. He uses his for a daily driver so the paints a bit rough but straight. I wish I had the balls to drive mine daily. Maybe sunny daily.
I'm putting the dash into dash originals and a respring and cover for the seats as close to the original vinyl is also on the cards so will get access to the windys, thanks for the offer of help. While out I would love to put a sound system in that only has a MP3 input accesible/visible and turns on when I switch on the original radio. Possible? Trying to get smicko for the cruise to the 2009 40th Anniversary at Easter. The guards join the list.
Another view, I doubt the originality of my bonnet though !
