I have a question for any who might be in the know...
I want to know what happened to all the colour that Fords lineup used to have? All the colours they offer now, seem to be muted. Does anyone know where all this colour has gone? I think it gave Ford some originality, but it seems that it's now all gone :( The falcon still has some bright colours, but I'm nowhere near tall enough to feel comfortable driving one.

You're quite right, I don't know why they dropped acid rush and breeze green etc
But i suppose it's like lots in ford's lineup at the moment options aren't prevalent (where's the V8? where's the wagon? where's the LWB?)

The person who help develop all the hero colours of BA/BA2 went accross to Holden some 5 years ago. The colours have lost intensity since she left.

Mind you IMO the FG lends itself to more mature colours better than bold "sticking out like dogs balls" colours. B series seemed to pull them off better as it was more masculine and boof with its profile and stance. Ive never seen an e/a series look good with a wild aftermarket paintjob. Mind you Im all for "dogs balls" with FPV.

Could the colour choices get any more boring?? Honestly, how many more Silvers and Greys do we need??
I was talking to a salesman in the second hand lot of a major Ford dealer. I was eyeing off a seriously nice BA2 GT in Rapid. It really looked the goods. The salesman explained to me that a guy was showing up with another Rapid GT to trade in and pick up a new 335kw FG GT. He showed me the Vixen FG GT parked nearby he was to pick up. He went on to say the customers biggest hassle was choosing the colour because he thought all the colours on offer were as boring as batshyte!! Vixen was the best choice. Looking at the two together my eyes were drawn to the Rapid GT every time. What a great colour!! Ford come up with such a good engine and such a ho hum range of colours. Bring back Rapid, Octane, Breeze and other lairy bright colours from the vault!!

To be honest I get a lot of people who really love the colour of mine, so darker colours can't be too bad. But I do agree that the BA had some very out there colours and it seemed people loved them. It does look like they have toned the FG down a bit.

The only E-series colour I really love is that gawdy "everglade", because it's like the B-series "breeze". But in all seriousness, car colours go in and out of fashion like everything else. Earthy colours were all the go back in the '90s, that goes for car paint, house colours, clothes etc. The '70s revival of the B-series era is over, I'm afraid.

I think the AU deserves a mention here;
- Liquid Silver - Amaretto Gold - Oxford Green - Barossa Wine But in the same token, The AU had awesome colours too; - Galaxy Blue - Venom Red - Hot Chilli Red - Narooma Blue - Blueprint - Silhouette - Meteorite (which is THE most well done factory grey IMO. So yes, better than Ego) Last edited by SSD-85; 06-04-2011 at 02:52 PM. |

Yeah you're right scotty, amaretto is quite possibly the worst falcon colour we've seen in a couple of decades
And galaxy blue is one of the forgotten awesome colours. Personally I love Regency Red, but Seduce is pretty good too.

I used to be able to order some awesome colour/trim/options back in BA days, but all that is a distant memory now. The yard always looks so boring now, black/silver/grey/white, the only other real bright colours are red/orange/blue in our current model range. And yes, we used to sell them!
BA/BF hay day colours: Acid Rush Citric Acid Phantom Blood Orange Envi Bionic Toxic Neo Breeze Dash Obsession/Fantasy (remember these! Chromaflair colours, can't believe they actually did it?)

When we were looking at a new car before buying the G6E. At the Holden dealer, my wife asked about a green color they had on the last model, but they said that colors go in cycles of something less than a year. He told us how if you were knowldegable, you could identify a cars age immediately by the color it had. He also told us that an upcoming color was that amazing yellow on new Commodores.
I had to admit, looking through the Ford catalogue, there was only one or two truly "brightish" colors, and yes, I'll agree that generally they are getting very muted and "safe" instead of standing out. |

That new yellow from Holden is great...always liked a yellow car.
It's also a good thing because it isn't just restricted to "hero cars", it's available across the whole range, which is important. Saw a bright light red coloured XR6 at Ford when we had the G6E in getting it's first service a while back...sweet colour... |

I may be a little bias, but I love Acid Rush. Many don't. But it stands out like all hell in a sea of silver and white. It's an impact colour, you pull into a car park.. people notice it. |

This isn't a dig at Ford, but a serious question. How much money does it cost to create a colour? Even if it was a very 'wild' colour, what is stopping Ford from making it and testing it, but then just having it 'made to order' only. Saving having it laying around getting stale in the barrels.
Like has been said, b-series had some top colours. The bright acid colours like Citric and Toxic and deep yellows and red's and vibrant oranges, and great shades of blue and greens, aswell as colours like Fantasy. Can't beat them. Why can't they just spray on the old paint codes on new cars? They don't have to have them sitting in dealers. If I was spending almost $100k on a top of the line Ford, if I want orange or I want a fluro yellow I should get it.
