Deck not fitting in EF.. HELP!

Hey guys.. i just recently bought a kenwood deck.. mp4029.. i am tryign to install it now, but have a problem. You can't use the normal braces that the stock ef falcon deck uses, the holes dont match up. Ontop of that, i can clip those braces onto the deck sleeve, but then it doesnt fit into the hole, as the deck is too big.. anyone had this problem? i really need help! thanks guys!

modify the brackets.
i've had to do it on 2 EF's.
its fairly common :/

thanks EFFaclon. Any chance you would be able to give me a rough idea on hwo to modify them..? because with them in i cant get the deck to even slide onto them.. thanks in advance!

it seems to really be different depending on the headunit.
my JVC headunit didnt really require any mods, a kenwood one i did needed minor mods and an alpine one needed heaps of changes.
i'd just bolt them onto the headunit, and see what adjustments have to be made (move hole up/down or if it needs to be bent differently.

Kaddis installed my headunit tonight, what we did was screw the original tape decks sides onto the new headunit, so that the new one would slide into the position the old tape deck did. Mine sits a little further back into the dash atm, but this can be changed with a few minor mods to the brackets.

ok.. so your talkign about moddign the actual deck? eg, drilling extra holes if necessary..? or just bending the stocky ef brackets from the deck, to hold the aftermarket deck inplace?

Modding the stock brackets so that they line up with the holes that are on the aftermarket headunit. I'm going to have to drill some new holes in the stock brackets so that the new headunit sits flush with the dash board area.

ok, this is the problem.. drilling holes into the stock brackets, would be the best option, altho the kenwood deck is abit wider than the stock one, which doesnt let me put it into the slot.. all i need to do is mod the brackets.. but how? :S

step 1, match holes, drill them.
step 2, mod/bend brackets?(yet to figure out.
step 3, run wiring(already figured out.)

What i have planned for tomorrow is, pulling the headunit out again, positioning the brackets where i think they will fit best, then re-drilling new holes in the brackets to suit the position i wish the headunit to sit. Its pretty simple, ill get back to you with some feedback and any problems i came accross tomorrow night.

its damn near impossible to get the head unit out :P
i had the force it in pretty hard

Thanks paul, and yes, iwas thinking of doing that EFFalcon, but i didnt wana wreck anything.. I just found holes that line up properly on the brace and deck with minimal modding, but now i need to figure out how im goign to get the wider deck to sit inside properly.. I'll post what I do.. thanks guys!

At liest no one can steal it on ya John, Mine's a Pioneer headunit so its prob heaps different to your JVc installation mate.

lol wat a night.. i finally got the deck in! I flattened out thew brackets, and didnt use screw but locked the stock brackets with the deck sleeve together, fits very sturdily.. not too tight, nor too loose. I'm happy with it, nw I just got wiring the rears to go! :O sub, amp, rear 6'' :(

Good work Mattski!, as mentioned above ill have to buy some metal drill bits tonight to allow me to drill some holes in the brackets, which will hopefully make the head unit sit in flush with the dash.

I did this to my pioneer head unit. the first hole mounted up fine. I did that one up then took it out too see where it fited. then drilled the hole accordingly.

mind you this was in my EB. but do the EF/EL have the same metal bracket.

yeah the e series weren't designed for after market head units,,i've got a simple kenwood cd tuner in the ea and i had to ask an auto electrition how to install the thing.once i figured that out it was simple..
