Default Stopped By Police On My PUSH BIKE!

Hey guys today i decided i was gonna go do some wheelies (the whole way around the block). Police car was coming the other day just with 1 cop in it and he did a u turn came up the road and told me to stop. I was like you got to be shitting me.

He started giving me lecture about not wearing a helmet and that i was going to get an infringment. I said. Theres kids out there fighting, doing drugs, commiting suicide and your gonna pull me up for no helmet. I said Im 19 if i dont wanna wear a helmet i dont have to mate havnt you got anything better to do? I just got on my bike and rode home. He didnt even bother to follow me.

I wish they would put more time into helping the youth.

Yeah man...and you wonder why he pulled you up?

I'm a mountain biker...and I always wear a helmet, even if I'm just testin shocks up and down the road.

Spend the extra 30 seconds and put one on, It might svae you $50, it might save your life.

Far as I'm concerned he is 19 and he can make an informed decision on whether to wear a helmet or not. I would of said the same thing.

Yes what he said, it's the law. However, think about it more positively, a helmet could save your life. The brain is the most important part of the body.

A bang on the head ain't nice, getting up from a fall and spewing your guts up as well as trying to stop a nose bleed then getting headaches for the next 2 years is the very least you can look forward to if you stack your pushy...

Wear a helmet.

when i was a kid the cop would have just grabbed me and given me a flogging for talking to him like that, sounds to me like he was just warning you with no ticket ,your lucky he did not follow you and book you with refusing a direction and not wearing a helmet.
///
although having said that im always amazed at the petty laws that have come into force over last 10 years,but bike helmets should be used by kids ,
////
i actually get quite angry around my Town when i see Police hassling kids and not out catching criminals, in this town you are very lucky if Police even attend a break in within half an hour but dont dare do 65kmh in a 60 zone.

i've had so many stacks when i was younger on my bmx and never once wore a helmet (before these gay laws came it so i wasn't a criminal :P )

We use to make some cool jumps on empty blocks around our area and that's where most of the stacks happened and i never hit my head once. Helmets are pointles, tell the cops to stick it and go find the drugs they should be searching the streets for.

If you are on a bike you are a road user, I would rather have cops pulling road users over than cameras taking sneak snaps. As for helmets for cyclists check out this info, it is WA related.

Cheers

Same here.

I think with the rules being enforced these days though, about no riding on footpaths anymore either , the cyclist nowerdays has to ride on the road with traffic / so it seems logical to wear a helmet on the road for your own sake.

It seems there has been alot more accidents since they made pushbikes go on the roads , and they get in the way of most motorists too ! / yet don't have to pay registration to use the roads like a car user has to ...hmmmm

Personally , I think its easier for a pushbike rider to look out for a pedestrian on a footpath, than it is for a motorist to lookout for a pushbike rider on the road ! / and even if there was an accident between a pedestrian and cyclist 9/10 is not gonna be anywhere near as bad as an accident between a car and a pushbike ! ... enough said , stupid rules . :sm_headba

a helmet on a pushie is like a seat belt in a car, if you dont wear one you
are putting yourself at a considerable risk, when i was younger i knew a kid who was riding around out the front of his house without a helmet, he took a fairly minor tumble and hit his head on the gutter, he died instantly...

That might have done some good in this case.

It's the law, respect it and those whose job it is to enforce it. Even if you don't agree with it and are prepared to ignore it. It's still the law. :

Having said that this country is wayyyyy over regulated. :

The attitude of some of the people in here is ridiculous.

You must wear a helmet on your bicycle. It's the law. A smart **** attitude isn't going to get you anywhere either.

Thor_, let me get this straight.

You go out onto a public road without wearing a bike helmet, and you have a cop try to insist you wear a helmet. You give him a mouthfull, and then complain that you'd wish the cops "would put more time into helping the youth".

Have you had any nasty sans-helmet stacks in the past? If not, you're a damn good actor.

Look at it from the cop's perspective.

Hey i can get this KID (come on mate, you're only 19) to wear a helmet, or i can come and scrape his brains off the road when he gets knocked off the damn bike.

It's not the fact that "it's the law - comply with it". It's the fact that its a damn good idea.

He was trying to save you from your own stupidity. Can you not see the irony?!?!?! lol

Well good on you for being a rebel and not wearing a helmet, does that make you feel like a grown up. But please don't chew up my taxpayer dollars by lying in a hospital bed and suing all relevant government agencies and by living on a disability pension for the rest of your life when you have a stack, not neccesarily of your own fault either, just because you weren't wearing a helmet.
