Default (more)Toyota Quality?

This has just cropped up in the US in the last few weeks....If you think rust in your Territory is bad...

http://forums.subdriven.com/zerothre...3827125&page=5

Quote:
Toyota is buying back a stunning number of 1995-2000 Tacoma with bad frames. They are giving owners 150% of KBB Excellent value if there are soft spots or holes in your frame regardless of the truck's condition.

If you have your truck looked at and it's deemed a buyback they don't even let you leave with it, they give you a loaner while you wait the 7-10 days for your check. You can take that check anywhere but my guess is a lot of folks use it at Toyota again.

People are getting insane amounts for their trucks right now. 2 guys in my club are getting back nearly double what they paid for their trucks just a few years ago, it's nuts. They are not isolated cases.

Grappone Toyota in Concord reportedly has a 100+ "bad" Tacoma's on their back lot waiting to be hauled away. Toyota is crushing every one which is a shame as most are full of perfectly good parts. White River Toyota here in VT has a car hauler full of old Tacomas rolling out regularly.

ok, instead of looking at it as TOYOTA are so bad and they have a crap product.....
name 1 single company that has ever gone as far as buying back 8-13 year old cars that are out of warranty?
they've found a fault that realistically isn't their problem anymore and have chosen to compensate the owners more than retail price.
you wont see Ford doing that any time in the future now will you.

^ Ford do that, YEAH RIGHT!

They don't even want to replace a faulty switch 1 day after warranty even if its played up since day 1 let alone pay back more than what the car was originally worth years later.

Dam thats gotta hurt Toyota's pocket.
But then again imagine what it would do for their rep!

Like Dave said I don't see too many companies going that far.

That is the most agressive rot I have ever seen for the age of the cars.

Any info behind the cause? Seems like the undercoat was thinned out with sea water and acid!..

Ford replaced every single Firestone tyre a few years back.

But when was the last time Ford (or any other manufacturer) built something where the frame rusted out before the panels

In colder reigions of the world they actually pour salt all over the roads to stop ice forming.

Don't know if it is related to this but cars rust out a lot quicker after spending time on these salted roads.

damn that amasing how that much rust can form so quickly, be interesting to find out what the underlying cause is.

as someone said above might cost toyota millions in this buy back. but they will get it all back plus some over the next few years when people see that toyota do back their products over such a long time. and even know this is a small bad rep for them at the moment it will be turned around quite quickly

They sprayed it with aid-rust instead of anti-rust. The employee who labeled the cans wrong is going to repay Toyota's buy back fees + 150% for the mistake just to keep his reputation intact.

The Tacomas are built at their shoddy US factories anyway - and besides, by the sounds of it the Tacoma owners will be ahead with the buyback scheme.

This is America. They are doing it to avoid any lawsuits.

Its probably a bad design that prevents whatever is causing the rust not to be able to get away from the metal. Most likely failed to suit their design rules and the problem is just being found.

The first time someone dies or is badly injured in a crash in one of these, the lawsuit will say "suing for negligence in inital design and testing".

A few million in buying back some rusting crappers far outweighs the 10's or 100's of million in potential liabilities if something bad happens because of the rust.

This is good, toyota admit they are wrong with rust in cars 10 years old, yet Ford's warrenty won't cover the rust in its 1 year old territorys.

At least Toyota buys them back (at a higher price than original purchase). Good luck with Ford even honouring a small warranty claim these days.

They should make it compulsory for all vehicle manufacturer's to bear responsibility for their rusty relics as time goes on. (recall some talk about this last year).

Ohhh Bugger

But seriously, good to see Toyota coming to the party, even if they're just covering their own butts.

Dodge did it in the US with one of their trucks a few years ago. In America, the land of class-action lawsuits that go against the big companies... you can never be too careful.

They're not doing that because they care about their customers, they're doing it not to get sued.

Toyota use a lot of local manufactures in countries they build thier cars so I guess it is American quality control.

I also wonder if Toyota use as much or more local suppliers to build their Aussie Camry's and Aurions than Ford or GMH for their Aussie products
