Cold turkey and will power
Gave up for 2 years and had a bit of a slip a few times after that. It is a case of reminding yourself you are NOT a smoker anymore I guess. Back on the 'don't smoke' kick again after having probably a packets worth over the last 2 weeks. I know I can do it and that is half the battle. Good luck if you are quitting

First you have to want to give up. It's no good giving up because someone else wants you to... it's too easy to 'sneak' one in!
I just clocked up 3 years since my last smoke, and finally the better half is trying to give up now. I used patches, plus willpower. |

My will power was the Sprint. I used that & a Nicorette inhaler. Havent slipped at all, although I still would love one .......... When I have times like that I go for a drive & remind myself its the smokes or the car .........
Sprint wins every time |

I went cold turkey a 1.5 weeks ago. Day one for me was pretty crappy and I was a cranky boy. Every day is getting easier as I go along. My wife quit the same day I did, she was fine in the first few days but is getting crankier by the day so go figure??
I didn't REALLY want to quit, moreso knew I should. When I get the urge to spark up I just ask myself "what will I really get out of it?" and the urge goes almost immediately. Good luck!! |

i've been smoke-free for 5 months now after 30+yrs of puffing away! i had a couple of heart scares that really made me think of what i was doing to myself : so i have a strong incentive to keep off the ciggies.
you could look at it from this way #1 you only have to pull up at the servo for petrol only! #2 you forget the ladies name at the shopping centre ciggie shop! #3 you have extra money in the bank at the end of the week! #4 you only cough when you have a cold! #5 etc etc anymore advantages to giving up please add! i can only suggest to those giving or attempting to give up is to have a RED HOT GO at it! sincerely to all concerned good luck!! p.s.i went cold turkey and will power but also the cost of the patches was a good incentive! they cost more than the ciggies

P.S. If you put away the cash spent on ciggies each time you usually buy them, you will see it grow fast. And, God forbid, be able to afford that elusive mod you have been after. Use a glass jar, so each time you want to light up, you can see why it pays not to. |

Cold turkey, it was bloody easy - NOT!!
24 years ago, and I still have memories of how tough it was, and I wasn't a heavy smoker.

Stay out of the pub, at work have your lunch inside and not outside and when you feel for one get a cold drink of water and have something to eat.
Will power and heartship, eventually you will hate em.

The answer for me was the dental surgeon
After been told that all 4 molars were to come out he suggested that if i was smoking to give up for at least 2 weeks for the stitches to heal up After 1 week didnt feel like smoking again and that was 17yrs quit(after smoking for 13 previous that) Mind you b4 that i tried acupuncture (that drew blood),cold turkey etc But to remember after all this time I save enough to but 2 fords Best of luck to whoever trys to give up |

No smoking in clubs, pub, restaurants, down here either. They are now 'smoke free' environments - thank god.
But I do love the pubs with the 'Alfresco' style, they still have their bloody windows and doors open, so all the smoke comes inside anyway - pharken tossers.

No smoking in night clubs, pubs, resturants etc here in NZ either. Pub smoking law came in a couple of years ago. Im very considerate around other people who dont smoke ( ie not close to them etc ) as Im a smoker and respect the laws. Have thought about giving up but as someone said above, you have to really want to quit, to quit.
Cheers, Brendon

How many days now?
Good job, keep it up, and remember "one day at a time" How are you finding dealing with all the smokers who are feeling guilty coz you are giving up, bit of tormenting going on?

I have tried absolutely everything to give up. Hypnotherapy, patches, pills, inhales, acupuncture, cold turkey and a few other things.
The thing that finally worked for me is reading a book by Allen Carr, the easy way to quit smoking. That book opens your eyes and makes you realize that smoking is really a state of mind, and the trouble with giving up is that you feel like you are making a sacrifice thereby making yourself miserable and craving a smoke even more. By understanding that giving up smoking is actually a plus, you tend not to crave the smokes and this makes it a lot easier. It worked for me. see my blog about this here |

By the end of the week you will be at the stage where you can live quite happily without smokes but will still want one every now and then. Telling yourself that you really don't "want" on becomes easier and easier every day. By saying "easier & easier" makes it sound like it was hard to start with but in reality it's not. After the first few days it's been a walk in the park. I had my first night at the pub last night - I sat outside with the smokers all night and hardly even had a twinge. |

It will be 3 years in may since I gave up......Patches for 6 weeks for me then I was on my own , 40 a day ,60 a day when I had a drink for 20 years.
wanting to quit is the key, If you are not serious about wanting to stop you wont...It took me a few goes of a year to crack it but I persisted and eventually won.
