It'd be interesting to hear peoples motoring bucket lists.
It could be a car, event or experience, past, future, anything really... I'll kick it off with, what will probably be my next car purchase, a Model T. I've always thought that something so simple would be a heap of fun to drive and own. I can see myself cruising the highways with a big line of traffic behind me, blowing a claxton horn all the way Which leads me to an event thats been prompting the purchase of one. The Red Dust Revival is an event held on a claypan out of Kalgoorlie WA every few years. We attended the last one and it was a big item to tick off my list. Its recreation of one of the earliest motorsport event in the country, celebrating its centenary in 2014. Its open to pre '39 cars and bikes with vintage planes also landing on the pan. I'll never miss another one and will hopefully enter a car in the future. https://www.motoringpast.com.au/red-dust-revival The last one wasn't ever on my list but is one I'll always remember. It was an EV test day at the driver training centre near Perth airport. We paid ten bucks entry and got to drive four cars around the track. I'll never forget the look on the instructors face and the following reprimand my old man got for spanking the Holden Volt. It was the last car so he figured he had nothing too loose. I didn't think it at the time but I'm glad we ticked it off now. So whats on your list?

This list of cars is probably one that I don't necessarily want to own but would love to drive one day. Some cars offer a awesome driving experience but can be a nightmare to own.
Aston Martin DB9, DBS or 2012+ Vanquish - The looks, the sound of that V12 engine. I left the earlier 2000's Vanquish off the list due to the horrible single clutch transmission. These are cars I don't think I would have the nerve to own. BMW E46 M3 CSL - I would also take the E46 M3 or Z4M, all fitted with that glorious inline 6, probably the best ever made. The CSL's induction note is to die for. Again, these BMW's are a minefield to own. XY Falcon GTHO Phase III - No doubt these are a pig to drive but I think I would love to experience the legend that is the GTHO. Mazda MX-5 - These are slow but that's not the point, would like to see what they rave about with these cars. Porsche 911 GT3 - any of them although the 997 RS 4.0 would be the pick. Again, this one is for the engine sound alone, I'm sure I would never approach it's dynamic limits. Jaguar F-Type SVR - I have come so close to driving one of these on a couple of occasions. If the regular F-Type R can blow me over, I can only imagine how good the SVR would be. This would be the only one here I would roll the dice of reliability to own. The looks! The sound! The unrelenting power! This is my lotto car, would buy one in a heart beat.

Mmm, you know what, I think I've satisfied all my motoring desires, cars anyway, but I would of loved to own a Norton Manx, 350cc or 500cc no matter, but such a beautiful machine, graceful and sleek, I could imagine riding the IOM TT, laying into corners hanging by a thread of rubber, the so called " chicken strip ".....wow, I can see it in my minds eye, old black race leathers and a Cromwell helmet, WW2 flying boots with long white socks folded out over the top of the boots, and a WW2 sheepskin lined Spitfire pilots flying jacket and white satin scarf around my neck blowing in the wind behind me, geez I can get lost in these thoughts.....lost forever!
Just close your eyes and imagine.....lost forever! Cheers Billy |

For me:
- Nurburgring at full tilt in a 911 GT3RS (991 or, my personal face, 997 4 Litre) - Goodwood Festival of speed - So many epic and rare cars in 1 place - Highway 1 San Fran to LA. Had intended on doing it when we where in the USA in 2016 but where forced to prolong staying with friends so had to come back to LA the direct route. - Monterey Car Week - F1 at Monaco - Drive a proper supercar (765LT/488 Pista/Huracan Performante)

Got a few things out of my bucket...
Round most of Australia a few times on the black stuff...more 4wding needed. SEMA a couple of times. Done Autobahns - rental car nothing special but still going fast - plus another 10000kms around Europe. Hwy 1 - LA to San Fran plus another 10000 miles around USA. Route 66 (not all of it) in a Mustang once and in a Challenger once. Seen Kounts Kustoms, Welderup, Shelby Museum in Las Vegas. Ford Dearborn Plant. Toyota Plant making Priuses in Japan. Drove Supercars around a track in Las Vegas, can pick what you like...I did Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 430 and some Porsche...the Aston was broken. Seen races at Bathurst, Nurburgring, Phillip Island, Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Speedway, Silverstone, Abu Dhabi, plus many street tracks. Hope to do next - CROSS THE F%$^% BORDER out of Qld! |

The road is 4 lanes wide with a row of shops down either side with a couple of side roads either side breaking up the line of shops. If you happened to be there when the Aston Driver started up he would give it a couple decent blips of the throttle, there was tunnel effect and the glorious bark would reverberate along the strip which is flat and around 400 metres in length. |

OK, there was a tunnel effect, a glorious bark......and then what?
Please don't tell me he idles up a 400 metre long shopping/drag strip? Please tell me he layed rubber for a 100 metres and left two 12 inch wide strip's of black sticky rubber on the blacktop, please tell my he broke all the road rules for once in his life, and wasn't just a poser!...... You obviously don't read the news often enough to see that a few have tried this over the years with it ending with dire consequences. A poser? Maybe yes, but not stupid enough to put other people's lives in danger. Time and place Billy, time and place. |

It was the " expectation" I followed the storyline, and anticipated that he took off like .. A...A scalded cat! B...He idled off and away! C...He stalled the damn thing.... I was hoping for " C"... I meant no harm.....you can delete it, no problems, but the lead up to the end of the story had me on the edge of my seat, sorry mate! Cheers Bad Billy |
