Default Performance Wagons!!

I have to wonder why ford have not got a performance wagon? The Holden ranks have some awesome ss wagons.They look great to match.Nice bodykits big v8. I have never seen an xr6t wagon?

The average dads performance needs have been limited to a sedan.How many of us go through life as die hard ford supporters and yet no peformance wagon??
My wagon gets up and goes quite well for an 1800 kg anchor.But only because I did to it what ford could have done from factory.
So do you think that a performance wagon will be coming from ford in the future?
What type of engine or improvements would you like to see in the sports wagon?

The stat boys will come and tell you they never sell enough units and its not worth Ford doing it.
The Terri is the alternative ! Bah humbug !
The wagon is dead by Ford and Holden is doing the same.

I like you Stav have a family, 3 kids, the wife has her CRV which next upgrade will be a Odessey or something like it.
I would love a performance V8 with at least the Boss260 not 220/6T wagon with the fruit but this won't happen.
I have looked at the SS wagon and I would get one if they do another limited run.

Ford did XR6 wagons early on (94-96 EF/EL I think) but I don't believe there was a big market for them.

Unlike Europe or Asia I guess we don't see wagons (estates) as a performance option ???

Its a shame but its true. Ford is aiming to replace the Wagon with the Territory.

Never the less, I have seem some awesome mocked up XR6 Wagons around Vic. Last series of factory performance enhanced Wagons I remember were the EF/EL XR6 and XR8.

Infact I saw one the other week at the car supermarket in Moorabbin - it was an orig EF XR6 manual.

there are a couple of AU wagons getting around down here done up as XR mockups.
ones a V8 and silver, with a series 3 kit (custom rear bar and skirts).. must have taken a bit of work..
looks awesome though

imo, ford would be on a winner with an XR6T wagon, but thats just me

I've got a soft spot for wagons. Perfect vehicle for a cruise down the coast with your mates and stuffed full of all the surf/fish/dive gear you own.

An V8 AU Fairmont wagon w/KB supercharge kit from BPT would be the ultimate.

...that Nizpro Territory is pretty cool too though.

There is a reason for this mate. Ford wagons arent appealing to the eye like their commodore counterparts

if i had the money (and they actually made them) id buy a schmik black BA XR8 wagon no questions asked! a power hump on one of them now thats appealing on the eye

NOPE in a BA wagon its always been Falcon or Futura six cylinder auto only.

Ive seen some nice bodykits on AWC website our sponsor.This would make the au look very outstanding.
The territory is a nice car for those who like that style but a wagon maintains that car feel because of its size.I cant imagine myself in a territory.

For a guy with the mod bug a nice BF turbocharged typhoon station wagon would be an awesome alrounder.
Heck as some have mentioned even an V8 XR8 wagon wouldnt be to foul either.

Do you think it would be easier to get engineers certificates on a factory ford turbo going onto a ba wagon?
The sedan is a lovely car but for my usage a not so handy car.

There would be a few, but just a few.

Waste of Ford's time and money in my eyes. There are things Ford aren't doing (Turbo Ghias, Hi-po V8/Turbo LWB, Manual Ghias, etc, etc) that would sell far better than a performance (?) wagon.

I think with an AUI I would trade up to the BA as the engineers certificate has to be easier with the same brakes and steering and all the factory engineering done on the Turbo model in the sedan.

The AU3 was the last of ther Fairmont Wagons and the EL was the last of the V8 wagons
Now FORD do not do the Fairmont wagons at work they are all changing to the Berlina Wagons FORDs loss HOLDENs gain and even HOLDEN has dropped the V8 in the wagons (Commodore , Berlinas) from the VY onwards

AUI/AUII/AUIII Fairmont wagons could be optioned with the 175kw V8.

A mate has a nice blue one with the V8 and the factory tickford 17" wheels and sports suspension package. We both test drove the same car in the yard and he beat me to it the bastard! The laugh is neither of us new we were both looking at the same car.

Wait until you are married with kids mate, you may change your view, some familys rely on their car to do everything, unfortunaltely we can't all afford to have a Hobby car in the garage for weekends.

True, but how many of these guys want a performance wagon? I know my old man is happy to just plod around in his stocko AU2 4.0 Futura wagon. Was happy to plod around in a Magna wagon before that (can't find a labotomy scar either, weird).

But then again on the other hand I'll use the same argument I use when talking about Turbo Ghias, Hi-po LWB etc. How hard is it to slot a turbo donk into a wagon, whack on XR front? What's different? Some wiring changes, driveline is the same, XR6T ECU shouldn't need many tweaks, side skirts and rear bar are about all that's missing.

I wouldn't bank on anything though, I don't see the wagon lasting past the last incarnation of the BA series.

arnt fpv working on a tubo terry or strong rumours anyhow. but i reckon it would be cool to see an xr8 wagon ,nice bulge, sound,grunt,handing,stoppingpower all in a wagons practicality.i also have noticed a bit of a trend in modding wagons just the other day wen in a mates au111 xr6hp we had an au forte line up beside us with 18 or 19 inch chromies,bodykit,lowered springs etc, i didnt take much notice then he gunned from the lights so we did the same and obviosly kiled him by alot but it wasnt till later when he passed us that i saw that it was a wagon looked pretty ugly but still alot of people would be in the market for a hipo wagon.

The long and the short is

Wagons are on their way out.

Camry does not have a wagon anymore.
Ford will not, any family that needs a wagon gets the territory.

Only wagons are in the small range (Coralls, Lancer etc etc)

Territory / *variant* are the new age wagons for family and work.

Its what the market is wanting.....

Having said that, FPV / Ford will do something performance with it.

Personally i pray the territory gets the Turbo motor, as the V8 would only decreased performance, and doesn't have the torque needed to make those sherman tanks go!!!!!!
Family Wagon days are numbered

I dont know if wagons are dead yet. With the way the price of fuel is going these days, maybe well see a wagon resurgence.

I think the main dilemma with ford wagons though is the rear leaf spring which is going to kill any sporty appeal in the mainstream

BA wagon is around 1.7-8 tonne

Terry is 1.9 - 2 tonne

my parents have an AU wagon at the moment, and can't see themselves upgrading simply because the territory doens't have the boot space requried (length)
so when they phase the wagon out completely, my parents will have to resort to another make or just keep an older car.
they'd like a faster car, but practicality comes first.

the EB series 2-EL wagons looked ok, especially in Le Mans Red, but the AU-BA wagons..... i haven't really liked, so either make the Falcon wagon cooler altogether, or leave it along, kill it off and get some hot Territories out there. LWB Territory might work and be a good alternative to a Fairlane, Territory based utes would be more appealing than the 1 tonne Falcon ute i think too. Turbo and V8 options would work, no excuses, just make it work!

When my eb wagon got trashed by a few semi trailers I went looking for the wagon.I was told by many dealers that people hang on to their wagons for as long as possible because of their functionality.
So I do believe that if the wagons do get killed off that there will be alot of old wagons on the road.

The Camry wagon was far too small for it to be practical.I had looked at these while shopping and whilst they bragged about the space I knew that this was not good enough.
Funily enough most of my work is done on Holden commodore wagons for fleets. I do not believe that they will get anything less .Some are going for the magna .But not many.

I love my wagon and i am dropping a v8 into it.

Wagons are very practicle for me. I carry around lots of gear most of the time. I personally think wagons look better than sedans.
