Police Cars

after having a cop car following me for a bit on the way home it got me thinking ,
who starts to get worried when cops are behind you just sitting there lookin at your car? and goin the same way as you god dammit??

i did tonight cause my car is too low and has stockies on the back ,,just driving along thinking if they are gonna pull me over and give me a canary or something or whateva

how bout you guys

every time i see a cop car i get worried, i just dont like being any where near them
and usually drive like 10km under the limit when they around

i normally dont give a toss, if im doing the speed limit and a cop pulls behind me ill change lanes and wont slow down till i see lights flashing.

I had a cop follow me for about 30 mins in a rural area at dusk (not many cars around). I was very nervous and trying to think of why he was tail gating me because he was very close... Then he signalled me to pull over and I was thinking "Here we in go..." and he told me to turn my high beams off :P I was too nervous to even notice them on! I let him pull bach out first and let him get a head start before I took off again! Guily conscience?!

Oh, I have to add - I try to get right behind the cops when driving. More often that not, they drive a bit over the limit and get a clear path through traffic! Fastest way I get to work ;)

I just try to drive normal, you know refraim from driving on the footpath, dont use the emergency lane to overtake. I have had several police cars I beleive do a U turn and follow me for awhile but maybe I am just being paranoid.

I normally overtake them, can't give a futz in Sydney. They do the speedlimit, I do a limit below the tolerance. After owning hoony V8's the last 4 years now, I've only been pulled over at RBT's and have been waved away of 2 of them when they spotted ricers in other lanes.

I usually drop a bit under the limit just to be sure. I had a cop follow me all the way back from the coast and it was a pain in the ****.

I dont change my normal driving habits at all. In my old pulsar I would have, drive 2 or 3 kays lower, be very very cautious, and would still get pulled over... Now in the EF I don't even get a second look from them. They mustn't like pulsars

Yeah, slow down, being a p plater it is to easy to loose my licence.

Had a few cops pull me over for odd things like high beams on rural areas, one of my p plates fell off and the cop pulled me over and said that I wasn't displaying them.

Same here, but only by a couple of km/h, so if it's a 70 zone I'll do 68 (gotta love digital speedos, lol), and I'll be extra careful to take off really gently from traffic lights and adhere to all the road laws, indicate with plenty of time if I'm going to turn or change lanes, etc.

Thing is, I honestly think that less people would drive like tools (tailgating, turning without indicating, running stop signs and red lights and so forth) if we saw more marked police cars on the road, and I think part of the reason many people react the way they do when they see one is because it's not a regular occurrence.

My friend is a idiot driver and I will not go with him again, but anyways late at night, we were passing in the other direction a paddy wagon in his pulsar and he decided to floor it to 100 in a 60 zone!

By the time the paddy wagon done a U turn, we were long gone...

I found as soon as the bright red p plate came off the rear windscreen they lost complete interest in me.
I've been off p's for about 5 years of so and i have been pulled over once.
While on p's i was pulled over in ANYTHING!!! Didn't matter if it was the bog stock fairmont or the stupidly over powered 302 windsor cortina they were always keen.
Nearly every time it was for licence checks and minor crap like that.

I just drive along on the limit, cause if they want me. They will get me. If they start following me, i just turn up and down heaps of streets (at the speed limit) to make sure there after me

Just imagine being a copper, who isn't involved or interested in traffic violations. They've got a marked work car (more police visibility on the roads), and they've got to get to an appointment/meeting/whatever.

It would take longer for them to get to their destination, because of all the paranoid drivers dropping 10 k's off their speed. That holds up all the surrounding traffic... no-one wants to overtake a police car, even at 61 k's!

Paranoia rules!

driving around in a car that could get defected in a second i always hated seeing the cops, but now it's a little better, i always hard a bit of a chuckle when i see noone overtake a cop car, even when they are going 50km/h

i always used 2 get shecked out as a p plater, not with no p's car is low as and havnt had a problem, but if they are sitting on the limit i will not pass, if they are driving 5-10kmh under, ill pass em, the speed limit dont change just cos there around,

i just turn the music down a bit and drive normal. only thing i really worry about is if they pull me over just cos im on p's.
but been on p's for over a year now and still no random roadworthy inspections.

I usually stay on the speed limit but make sure I don't speed down hills, esp when I have cruise on, I have quite often been paced by unmarked cars, and in this case I don't I don't change anything, and pretend I don't know they are there, and they usually give up after a few minutes.

Once, running late on the way to work, I was flying up a certain road near knox and I was doing about 20km over the limit and as I was approaching a new commodore, he pulled into the next lane, and my initial thought was "thanks mate, i can go straight through past you now". It was only a second later that I noticed the red and blue lights behind his tinted rear window.

He was gonna pull behind me, get a speed reading and book me I figure. I didn't pass him after that.

ive got nothing to worry about so i treat them as just another car on the road.

why get worried? have you got something to be worried about?

I drive quite sensibly (sticking to speed limits) but I still slow down that little bit more when I see a cop. Even still, cops tend to ignore my car. It's just another really tidy and well looked after EA. The only exception was that about 3-4 months after I got my P-plates (in 2002) I did let my speed go up to 115km/h in a 100km/h zone. Sure enough, an unmarked cop car... $200 fine and 1 demerit point (these days, it's 3 for that offence). That incident made me a better and more sensible driver.

I crap myself practically everytime I see the cops. They seem to in my area target ANYONE who's a P plater or has a doneup car. But Thats just everywhere im told.

I am normally pulled over at least once a fortnight around my area. The cops seem to love my car :S, Allways get "random licence check, Random RWC check".

Seems to be the P plate does it. I actually forgot to put them back in my car one night after driving my mums ea for the day and the cops didnt even look at me once when next to me in traffic (shrugs). Mind you I was packing myself for forgetting the P plates.

The cops around my way know me and the car, and leave me alone.
A couple of times I have even been pretend breathalyzed.

Cop... "Dont worry mate, if ya driving a car like this, you wouldn't have been drinking"
Me... "Damn, wish I had those drinks now"
Cop... "What"
Me... "Only joking"
Cop... "Oh, ah, okay see you later"

Never worries me. If I do nothing wrong they won't pull me over. I even had one bloke wave his finger at me just after I got the XR, (there wasn't to many on the road in Sydney then) while playing in traffic. Quite a few used to give me the "thumbs up" when the XR8 was brand new.
I won't slow below the limit like some others do, makes 'em think your hiding something. Besides, if it's a 110 zone and they want to sit on 100, they deserve to be passed.

John you are right, you think road uses would be confortable surrounded by the authorities, but instead we panic and drive extra (probably too) cautious.

I worry when driving a stock car and when I am in the LTD I expect to be pulled over, there is nothing wrong with the car but I just expect it.

Why all the Paronoia? I think the main reason for the paranoia is the fact that we don't see that many marked police cars on the roads, so when we do, it makes us that little bit more aware of anything we might be booked for, such as speeding.

Personally, I would welcome more marked police cars on our roads, for the reason I stated earlier in this thread, also because it would mean a lot less people would take the risk of driving unregistered and/or obviously unroadworthy vehicles - I remember reading recently that part of the reason so many people drive unregistered vehicles is because they think that as long as they are not drawing attention to themselves, they are not likely to be booked for it. So if there were more of a visible police presence on the roads, people would be less likely to drive vehicles they really shouldn't be driving.

That's what I think, and if you disagree, you are welcome to say so, as long as you can do so in an intelligent manner.
