Default have some questions on sales

hi

wondered how youd sell a car or van or help someone sell one when you dont have any to sell or have family or friends that need help, an nearly 40 and havent done anything with that area yet due to circumstances that couldnt and cant be helped and many others would have at only half the age plus dont have the space to do sales or continually buy and sell and feel like time is dragging and going.

many of you know that have stayed too long in a job that didnt give a life outside work and am now paying for it and probably will be for quite some time, think thats one reason why workers today dont stay in jobs and move on as soon as they know its time and not do what people used to do and stay a little longer before leaving, left the hospitality job in february due to sale of business the old boss owned.

when the grandparents go their estate will be handled by the sons and while that is fine there will be a car to sell and contents and that makes you realise youd like to have a go at selling a car and how much you miss selling treasures.

what would be a way to have a go selling cars or vans without trying to get someone to change wills so you handle sale of certain items of theirs they want sold if something happens to them or try sell more than you can without licenses, not sure how many cars or vans at a time or per year you can sell without licenses and not sure what secondhand goods you can sell without licenses and what you need one for or without trying to tow with cars that arent meant for towing for example tow too much with your aunts hyundai tucson.

at same time with the job it was time to move on for the next chapter and just pleased that didnt have to make the tough decision as probably wasnt going to last much longer in it anyway.

as for wills its sad some families fight it or have problems with it and it shouldnt happen, sometimes can see why but it is sad it comes to that for some families as soon as there is a death.

they do say things come to those that wait but not many see it that way now, what do yous think has happened to the days where people were prepared to wait.

I put your questions into ChatGPT and this is the response:

Quote:
To explore selling cars or vans without needing a lot of space or dealing with complex licenses, here are some options you might consider:

### 1. **Start Small with Private Sales**
You don’t need a dealer's license to sell a certain number of vehicles per year. The specific number varies by location, but in many areas, you can sell up to 5 cars or vans annually as a private seller before needing a license. Here’s how you can start:
- **Sell a vehicle for a friend or family member**: You can help others sell their vehicles to get experience without buying them yourself. This will give you a feel for the process.
- **Research online**: Platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Autotrader allow private sellers to list vehicles for free or with a small fee. By understanding how these sites work, you can start selling one or two vehicles at a time.
- **Detailing and Flipping**: If you're interested in making the cars you sell stand out, focus on detailing and minor repairs. This can increase the value of the vehicle without the need for large investments or space.

### 2. **Broaden Your Selling Portfolio**
You can also dabble in selling secondhand goods to get a taste of reselling, without diving fully into the car sales business right away. Many secondhand items don’t require a license to sell unless you’re operating a consistent business. For instance:
- **Garage sales or estate sales**: These offer an opportunity to sell smaller items, and you can practice pricing, negotiations, and transactions.
- **Online platforms**: Sites like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or Gumtree allow you to sell various goods without needing a license.

### 3. **Consider Temporary or Part-time Dealer Work**
If you’re unsure about selling cars full-time, you might explore working part-time at a dealership or with a friend who has experience in vehicle sales. This way, you can learn the ropes without the burden of running your own dealership.

### 4. **Sell Cars on Consignment**
Some dealerships allow individuals to sell their vehicles on consignment. In this case, the dealership sells the car for you, taking a small fee or commission. This allows you to gain experience selling without the need to handle every part of the process yourself.

### 5. **Car Detailing or Restoration**
If you miss “selling treasures,” another way to break into vehicle sales without directly dealing in cars is to offer detailing, restoration, or custom work. This could give you hands-on experience with cars and may help you connect with people interested in buying or selling vehicles.

### 6. **Selling Cars in the Estate**
When it comes to selling a car or items from your grandparents' estate, you can offer to assist the family in handling the sale. Since you already have an interest, this could be a way to step into the process without needing to change wills or manage the entire estate.

---

Regarding your reflection on **modern work habits**, you're right that people today tend to move on more quickly from jobs that don’t fulfill them, often due to changing work cultures. Flexibility and work-life balance are increasingly prioritized over job security, which used to be more of a focus for older generations.

As for **the loss of patience** and waiting for things in today's world, it seems to be influenced by a culture of instant gratification driven by technology and convenience. People expect faster results due to advancements in communication, shopping, and even relationships. The days of waiting patiently, as you mentioned, may feel like they’re fading, but some people still value taking the time to achieve goals.

If you’d like more advice on getting started with vehicle sales or specific details on licenses, feel free to ask!

that's up to the sons to decide, not you, but you'd be better off asking them rather than us as we have no say.

How do you assist someone to sell a car or van or sell it for them without having to get sellers licenses to sell certain types or sell outside of friends or family or without doing anything dodgy or without having your own place to be able to buy and sell under a certain amount a year.

How many cars and vans can you sell and is that amount per year before you need a motor vehicle dealers license and what types of secondhand equipment can you sell and is there a maximum per year before you need secondhand dealer licenses.

You’re pretty much realising what you want to do and you know that things are going to take time, plus stayed too long in a job that no longer served and didn’t have much of a life outside of work and now paying for it and will be for quite some time.

To sell cars, vans, or secondhand goods legally without a dealer's license, you need to stay within specific limits set by local laws. Here’s a breakdown of what to keep in mind:

### 1. **Selling Cars and Vans Without a Dealer's License:**
- **Annual limit**: In many regions (like the UK, US, and Australia), you can usually sell up to **3-6 vehicles per year** without needing a dealer's license. This is often considered casual selling. However, this number varies by jurisdiction, so you should check with local authorities to be sure.
- **Private sales**: Selling cars to friends, family, or through casual sales (e.g., Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace) is usually allowed without a license, as long as you're not making it a business.
- **Buying and flipping cars**: If you're buying vehicles to flip for a profit regularly, you might need a license, even if you sell less than the annual limit.

### 2. **Selling Secondhand Goods Without a Dealer's License:**
- **What you can sell**: Typically, secondhand goods such as electronics, furniture, tools, etc., don’t require a license if sold in limited quantities.
- **Limits**: Some areas require you to have a secondhand dealer license if you sell goods regularly or over a certain value, but occasional private sales (like garage sales) usually don’t trigger this need.
- **Frequency and volume**: Similar to vehicles, if you’re selling secondhand goods regularly or in high quantities, you may need a secondhand dealer license. The annual limit or threshold is usually based on the value or frequency of sales, which varies by region.

### 3. **Avoiding "Dodgy" Practices**:
- Ensure that all vehicles you sell have clear titles (no outstanding finance or disputes) and are sold with transparency about their condition.
- Keep proper records of your sales to avoid any issues with tax authorities or being seen as an unlicensed dealer.
- Stay informed about the laws in your area, as there are sometimes exemptions for certain types of sales (e.g., inheritances or one-off large sales).

### 4. **What to Do Next:**
- **Consult local regulations**: Double-check the limits for selling vehicles and secondhand goods in your region to avoid licensing requirements.
- **Start small**: You can start by selling cars or vans within the allowed limit, building your reputation through word-of-mouth and online listings.
- **Create a business plan**: If you find success and want to expand, consider the steps for obtaining the necessary licenses later on.

It sounds like you’re on the right track in figuring out how to move forward with this type of business, but you’re also aware it’ll take some time to build momentum.
