Some of you who watched the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (don't lie), may have noticed the 1968 E Type they drove off after, was actually a one off electric conversion.

I think Most phase 3's emit no emissions because they aren't driven.

But I think this could be great for a daily... the year is 2028 Fuel is $4.00 a Litre driving in the city requires a emission pass suddenly I have the option to continue use of my dinosaur vehicle.

Maybe we can do conversions similar to how we did for LPG...

Government could even look in to incentives.

It isn't a rebirth it is Sacrilege !

Noise is part of the E type experience, people stop because of the noise from that lovely engine.

Noise is part of the GT experience, I just love the sound of my 351 turning over first thing in the morning, shaking and rocking trying to idle with the big cam and puffs of condensation coming out if each exhaust.

Next there will be some idiot who de-noises a Ferrari or Lambo or Aston.

Its been happening for years, most people have probably seen a converted car on the road and have been none the wiser, especially if it hasn't drawn your attention with a loud exhaust.

And its not just the sound, that Jaguar inline six was stunning to look at, just as much as the exterior.

Well since Jaguar themselves did the conversion, I guess it's ok...it's only a one-off

If you had an empty shell of an older car, I suppose that's fine too.

That said, I do agree with others that the noise, vibrations are really what give these cars life.

That kind of concept defeats the whole idea of the classic car ownership experience imo.

Surprised no one has really brought the kits into mainstream availability.
There have been some amazing results in performance improvements.
I guess packaging is a problem and maybe the range isn’t good enough yet.

I read the E-type was converted in the USA and shipped over so that it would symbolise the union of British and American togetherness i.e. it blends in with the other ostentatious Hollywood meet Royalty aspects of the wedding.

I don't see a problem with doing an electrical conversion to a classic as long as it can be swapped back to how it was if need be.
I've seen a few of these types of conversions over the years and it ain't rocket science. Its a regular repower in the boating world where some of the classic craft are require to operate on pristine freshwater lakes.

But yeah, I would rather hear a great sounding 3.6 litre Jag 6 any day.

Yes it was done in a way the original 6 would slot straight back in.
The electrics were done by Rimac in Croatia.
There is a lot of stuff they have done that has been kept under wraps, but we know of at least the Agera and Valkyrie.

These conversions are fully-reversible and can be applied to any XK engine powered classic Jaguar built between 1948 and 1992.

I imagine driving one of these would be like rooting a transgender 'woman'.

For those saying they'd make a good daily driver, do you actually enjoy driving your classic as an everyday run around. Maybe I'm in the minority of classic owners but I'm paranoid driving any of mine around the careless brain dead motoring public who have the majority of their attention to somewhere or something else. The open road isn't so bad but I only travel thru town to get out of there.

In Germany for the last 15 years or so, there has been high additional annual license fees for daily use of old cars. The owner can get exempt from the additional fees by modernizing the old cars with newer engines or retrofit fuel injection and catalyzer, and pass emission tests, or fit conversion kits that are pre-tested by TuV.
There are not many cars left on the roads that are from the 90s or older, but each of them are certainly polluting like 10 new cars.

Cars are meant to be driven....driven hard...not fast but hard!
I couldent own 2 cars unless one was a project,I drive a bog standard Au 11 six cyl Fairmont,I traded in my RHD 1985 Corvette Coupe,red on red and fully loaded,with all the Z51 options.
I like my Au better!..why..well its easy,my longevity!
Every time I got in it I had to put it sideways,that beast of a car just demanded to be driven not nursed or looked at but driven,and driven hard!

I got rid of it for 2 reasons,firstly I could not afford to keep it due to my being put on a DSP, and secondly i had to wear a soft neckbrace every time I got in it,the thing was a cop magnet,but I drove it hard,no good having that sweet sound out the exhaust at idle,I wanted to hear and feel it at the redline,I wanted it to scream inside my head,cops said NO..so now I got a bog standard Au 11 Fairmont.

Driven not Hidden,the Shannon's Insurance ads on TV make me want to jump in my TV and punch the owners heads in!!!

You do realise new cars still pollute the planet, owning an older car uses a lot less resources over time than the materials required to keep building new throw away models.
