Default question about v8 conversion for au.

I want to convert my au to v8.

I have found an au1 Fairmont v8 for the parts (I will rebuild and do cam and a few things to engine before fitting it) but mine is an au3 so my questions.

1. Au1 is smartlock and mine is smartshield so how do I get around this?
Or do I have to get wiring and ecu from an au2-3?

2. I read that au subframe/k frame is the same 6-8cylinder unlike e series?

Any other info I should be aware of?
Cheers Josh.

K-frame is the same Josh.. You will only need to change the mounts..
The easiest way around it would probably be to transfer the ECU, BEM and key barrel from the AU1 into yours, essentially changing it to smartlock..
Even if you got all the S2/3 stuff, it will still need to be programmed, unless you pull it all from the same car..

I did it the other way around when doing mine and went from smartlock to smartshield, to save all the hassles..

If you've got a whole donor car, it's probably your best bet..

EDIT: You also may need to change the oil pressure switch to the S2/3 one though because it's more of a dummy gauge, the S1 one shows actual pressure..
If you have S2/3 cluster you'll need S2/3 pressure switch..

You'll also need to modify your fuel lines, or use the fuel lines from the donor car..

If I think of anything else mate, I'll let you know..

Nah I was going to buy a donor but don't have the room.

I'd rather wait and get au2-3 than go back to smartlock to be honest.

Thanks mate.

Probably a better option..
If you look around at the auctions, you may be able to find a nice 220kw XR that has been written off..
Then transfer everything across and ebay all the leftovers..

Is yours a high series dash though..?

that won't work you would need to change all the dash wiring as well ( there are some wiring incompatibilities between S1 and S2/3 )so essentially you would need to put a complete S1 dash in big job and a backward step

That's what I meant.. I transferred all of it into mine by changing the whole dash, as it was way easier..
I should have elaborated more..

Cheers

the way you did it , smart lock to smartshield is a positive move, the other way around is a backwards step so he is better off getting the right stuff for his car

Dash change on an au is a simple job, easiest falcon dash I've done. And for legality you cannot put an older motor in a newer car, i know it's basically the exact same motor but thems the rules.

I take it this would be for a different car to the one with the stroker in it?

Yeah that car is long gone.
