Thumbs up Street-Fighter Head ... worth it????

hi all

ive been saving for a while now... my cousin suggested to me instead of getting rims why not get a custom head for the falcon...?

ive been looking at jim mock motorsports and found their DEV Reco "Street-Fighter" Head... now i want to find someone who has this head and and if it is the best one you can buy for around $1100 and does it come with a cam?.. im willing to pay up to 1400 - 1500 for a better one ... is there any other places that do a better package ??

Andrew

that price does NOT come with a cam or rocker gear. a Dev cam runs about $500.

Would be intresting to get peoples heads on flow benches and see what sort of results they got for the price.

$1500 could get you a very serious head

My advice - pick the cam, then decide what head to get

Many people say get the cam because its easier to install and gives some power increase.I think that the head should be the first mod . A head sets up the motor for future mods and should give hefty increases if done properly. I spent 1400 dollars on a 3.73 diff and I wish I had bought a head instead.Power is the centre of performance. The head and cam combined are the kings. All the rest apart from a high stall converter and full exhaust system wont see you getting that much quicker.

The only way id even consider letting JMM have anything to do with my car would be if they paid GnD Performance to do it!

For the same money as the bare heads or even the head+cam kits from empire mock, you can get it stepped up a notch for the same money if not cheaper at GnD.. its your call who you want working on your car though.

I agree with your JMM comments, but last week you were complaining about G&D and saying you would take your car elsewhere :P

yeah but there was a good reason for that, its been explained and sorted out..
so GnD are back in my good books..
Ive just heard and seen (both mine and other peoples experience) too many bad things from JMM to even look in their direction now..

They are badly lacking in customer relations to an extremely high level.. thats the main point im trying to get across.. main reason I refuse to deal with them.
Look there products work(sometimes), but they are not the be-all and end-all, and in my opinion they are waaaaaaay to overpriced..

ok example that happened a few months back...

Guy gets a Dev5, claimed 170rwkw or so..
gets it home, all good and fine, runs it on a dyno closer to home and it only makes 140-150rwkw.. rings JMM asking whats going on..
Jim Mock says "not my problem'and basically hangs up on customer

AND

Theres more, its just the type of stuff that you dont go into detail on a public forum.

2 odd years ago when I asked about the details of the dev 5 kit I was told on the phone by Jim himself "No, its to complicated and you wouldnt be able to understand any of it". The conversation went downhill from there and I finally just hung up.

I was told a pearler a while ago by Jim. "Don't worry about forums, no one on them knows anything". Or words to that extent.

Someone find Dave. We were right all along. My week long holiday on the old forums now seems even more worthwhile.

Like I said before man, their product works (most of the time), and i'll give them credit for that.. people arent bagging the product.
Every post in this thread thats been made agaisnt JMM have had to do with brendon or jim themselves. Customer relations?
read over them again for yourself, its the way he treats his potential customers if not already customers.

Not the point. There are people on the forums who know their stuff. To come out and say they know nothing, listen to me is just ИИИИ poor.

bah.. these arguments get more and more petty everyday.

back to the point, get a cam and a unichip for that price. Well worth it.

Then go to the local performance workshop and get the head ported for $500... its the way to go

IMO porting is the last place to get more performance out of the head, they are pretty big to begin with. A lot more gains to be had elsewhere if the guy doing the headwork knows what they are doing.
