Timing Chain Guide Replacement

Hey All.

My EF has developed a hell of a noise from the front of the engine. After eliminating the possibility of lifter noise (I replaced the lifters) and speaking to a mechanic, I have come to the conclusion that it must the the chain guides.

I guess the big question for this is, do I have to drop the sump to fix this? If yes, can the engine be unbolted and lifed up a bit rather than having to raise the whole engine from the car?

Now following on, If the engine does have to come out, what sort of other work would it be worthwhile doing while the engine is out? I was thinking mainly rings, but perhaps this isn't necessary. I'm not planning on doing any performance work on it.

If of course this can be done without having to drop the sump, 70% of my troubles have been solved. I guess while the head is off I will get it tested and re-co'd as well. She has 250,000 on the clock.

Not 100% of the process of changing them but i broke my in my EB around 12 months ago now it was caused by over revving i got a a pro to do it set me back $500
