Default Trim cover in passenger side footwell

Hi guys. I'm new to this so hopefully I'm doing it right.

I recently became the proud owner of an Ink Blue Zetec. Mostly love the car. I was a bit disappointed by the fact that I could see the wiring loom and top of the carpet trim in the passenger side footwell. Seemed a bit unfinished but just thought it was Ford being cheap.

I checked out a couple of Mondeos in the local Ford dealership and found that their TDCi had a cover fitted that neatly disguised all wiring and carpet cut but their Zetec and LX didn't. The dealer couldn't explain it.

Can someone tell me if my Zetec should have a cover?

Cheers.

Congrats on your new car! :

What you've mentioned here is the first thing my wife noticed a day after we bought the car. The corner of the carpet in that footwell was just hanging there.

Mine goes in for its 15,000km service tomorrow and I'm going to mention it.

Don't want to spoil your day but sit in the rear seat passenger side and note the exposed steering column where it goes into the floor. That's cheap!

Don't worry I had noticed that too. If you are getting your car serviced at Sinclair Ford check out their TDCi for the trim cover. Looks very neat. I want one! :

Hey - congrats on your new purchase.
That is something that we noticed as well - we inquired about the poor finish, and were told that was how it came (sort of like "too bad, take the car and get out of here"). I will revisit this issue when I take it in for their 3000km "service" checks.

I also noticed the bare firewall as the drivers footwell carpet doesnt go that high.

Does your fuel flap lock when the car is locked? Mine doesnt, and I will be telling them to get that fixed and working (some say it was only rectified on 08 models)

Just checked my fuel flap and yes it locks when the car is locked. Mine is a March 08 build.

The mystery of the footwell trim deepens. No one so far has the trim and yet the TDCi in the dealership did. Is it just the diesel that has it?

When I inspected my car pre-delivery I saw the same as you're seeing now. The dealer assured me it would be fixed by delivery and it was. I didn't inspect it closely to see what they'd done but I've been very happy with Ford's response. Their customer care corporate division are very interested in keeping their (new?) car customers happy from my experience.

Just went out and checked the so-called fix they claim to have done on the flapping carpet and they haven't done anything except tuck the corner of the carpet under a part of the wiring harness.

Not impressed.

Anyone got any photos of this? I have an XR5 and not noticed it but then again, not sure what exactly I am looking for.

Hey Warren,

Here is a piccy of the loose carpet showing the wiring loom.
Its quite clear the carpet is not tucked in at the side, but the carpet is also quite weak (not stiff) and therefore sags open.

The dealer just rang to ask if I was happy with the service and I mentioned this carpet flap not being fixed but just the corner being tucked into the wiring. They want me to bring it back again.

Wow that doesn't look so flash. Will be making a trip down into the car park during lunch to see if my car has the same issue! I don't think it does.

Sorry, should've been very clear that was the carpet in my car

Anyway, when you look at it, it's just very untidy.
Here is another photo from a bit further back.

It's not the end of the world, but seeing this makes the car feel cheap.

Looks the same as mine too. Pretty ordinary I reckon. I am going to try and get a photo of the trim cover I saw on the diesel in the local dealership over the weekend. I will post this if I am successful.

I had the same problem in mine - it looks like the carpet is cut badly, if it was an inch or so longer it would be ok. Fixed mine with one of those self-adhesive velcro buttons.

It made me nostalgic for my first car - an LJ Torana - which had kick panels made of some kind of thick cardboardy stuff. The passengers side one was creased and falling apart so I made a new one out of that school-project style cardboard bought from a newsagents (several layers glued together) and some tyre paint.

I have a photo of the under dash trim. Problem is I can't upload it as it is 2MB and therefore too big. It is a jpeg file. Anyone know how I can get it uploaded? :togo:

Thanks Zippy. Here's the link. Check out the trim cover. Looks much better than the flappy carpet and exposed wiring. The dealer suggested that the cover may be fitted to Euro spec cars and that this one made it onto an Aussie spec car by mistake. Not unheard of he says. This was fitted to a TDCi. Does anyone have one fitted to their car?

Thanks for that photo. It looks heaps tidier than what we have (can anyone say, "I want one!")

For photobucket, use the IMG tags, so you would use "[IMG]" around your http link, instead of "[URL]" - then you will automatically see the piccy in your post.

Finally remembered to look (hey I always drive!).
Mine doesnt have a cover but unless you poke your head right under, you can't see much. Does look unfinished.

Good news everybody. Today I got my unsightly passenger side footwell fixed. The good folk at Sinclair Ford in Penrith, particularly Chris Jones in the service department, tracked down a part number for the missing trim. It took a few goes but he eventually got the part up from Melbourne (only took 24 hours once he'd figured out the correct part number) and he installed it in my Zetec. Took all of 2 minutes. Looks totally finished now and no more sagging carpet! Very happy!

Do you have a copy of the part number? I would like to get my WA ford dealer to install it on mine.

It is called an Insulator Dash Panel and the part no. is 6M21U044C99BC. It cost $24.54.
