This is either waaaaaaaaaaay out of left field or directed at my post in the MMM thread.
Hip Hop is fantastic, love it to itty witty little bits. I do, however, hate the trash that makes it onto the air on JJJ simply becuase it is Australian. I also maintain it has ruined a once great radio station.

I'll concur that Aussie Hiphop is Mostly Garbage - Clandestein or the Hospus Crew/Broken Tooth Records are pretty good
Its all to do with the Mentality of the Rapper I did read a few posts here and there re: Hiphop....maybe it was yours that spurred this |

Hay gozza hows it going.
I dont listen to hip hop but I do think anyone that makes their own music should feel proud that they do so (yes even if they dont play an instrument) and you should be proud of the music you make . Thats a bit of a difference in musical taste you have there metal and hip hop and jazz but hay if it works for you then good stuff. I dont think there is any ignorance toward hip hop I just think some people like it and some people dont. I am one of the people that dont and I dont understand when people get offended (not that I am saying you are)when people say that they dont like other peoples music. Its not that people dont understand it, it's just that they like other sorts of music . As you stated you listen to music for certain reasons and so do I . It's just that everyone has a different set of reasons. For instance one of the reasons I dont like listening to hip hop style music because it is overly biased towards bass sounds .EG the bass drum is the loudest thing in the mix and to me becomes very anoying to listen to after a while and it just gets on my nerves. You on the other hand must like this sound and think it is great and that is just fine, everyone has their likes and dislikes. I mean most people do not like the music I listen to but I do not just assume they are ignorant to the joys of listening to heavy metal music(thats what I listen to). I just assume that they must like something else and no amount of listening to it or telling them how good you think it is will change their minds. I do not think the music I listen to is superior to your's and I dont like it when people think that theirs is, it's just different. And yeah I dont think that main stream hip hop is doing that sort of music any favours If I hear another song about how much their ring cost or how much their car cost or how many ho's they have nailed I think I am going to puke.

Thanks for the breakdown man. I don't believe that people are iggnorant towards it just becuase they don't like it or listen to somthing else. Its more to the point of people saying things like" hiphop is the cause of all trouble" Hiphop is for druggos....."Hiphop" promotes violence and blah blah blizzle" I appreciate you taking the time to explain why you don't like it...Its exactly the sort of answer i was looking for Being a rapper/post mixer Constuctive Criticism makes the world go round...Critical analysis could be another way of putting it... I make beats using all musical elements...Obviously Drums and Bass are key ingredients for HipHop but i like to sample orchestral stuff mainly for hooks and such Mainstream rap is Black If you aint black your whack |

Yeah that main streem stuff is biting you in the A $ $ with the gangster thing as long as they keep going on about how bad they are and how much of a badMF they are just so they can sell cd's to 12 year olds you will find all hip hop will be thought of as promoting crime even if it is not. It's the same as the thing that all people that listen to metal worship the devil . I dont know how old you are but you should have seen how bad it was listening to metal in the 80's. They ran stories on the news about how peoples kids where going to turn into devil worshiping law breaking drug taking zombies and it needed to be banned. Sounds like the same stuff they are saying about hip hop (accept for the devil bit).

I'd have to say I'm a big fan of MC Frontalot, as well as occasional older stuff, but I'm not a huge fan of it. I'd have to say the disrespect towards hiphop would have to be because of an outspoken legion of "playaz" who make complete tools of themselves, trying to live a gangsta lifestyle. That, and the fact that the huge availability of mainstream hip hop with few redeeming qualities.

I have to admit, I'm really not much of a hip hop and rap connoisseur, but if a song has an infectious groove, I'll usually listen. But I just cannot understand why there has to be so much F--- this and F--- that in hip hop and rap. Its totally unnessary. I understand that its about expression and all but I find it really hard to listen to.
Feel free to flame me now.

the only hiphop I listen to is the stuff they play on triple J the only one I actually don't mind is by the heard, at least i'm pretty sure that's what they're called.
I hate american rap all I hear is "yo yo gangsta kill people with guns i am a gangsta i have sex with 50 wemon a night i am a pimp yo gangsta 20inch rims shot guns kill people run from the cops i'm a gangsta yo yo" All I hear from american hip hop is.... well it's just some grown man singing like he hasn't hit pubity yet, and the film clips are just wemon in their underwear just dancing around him |
