Exclamation Ford Focus 2011 Electronic Steering

Hi Everyone,

My electronic steering rack in my 2011 Ford Focus Ambient 1.6L (manual and petrol) Hatchback has died. My VIN is: WF0KXXGCBKBT67889 and my wheel is 16". I have contacted the ford dealer they have said that I need OEM: HV6Z3504EW for the replacement ($2900). They also warned to not get other parts as it wont work in the car. I have read on similiar forums that this is commonly said and that other racks can be used if the tyre size is the same. I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this

If you know someone that works at Ford you can get them at employee prices for about $2k. I got quoted about $800 labour to install. Depends on your mileage if it's worth it or not. Apparently the new racks will eventually have the same issue so some people take a gamble on a cheap second hand rack from the wreckers.

Hi there, I am probably a few months late to this chat but had the same problem. Turned out nothing wrong with the steering rack itself but the Mega fuse had an intermittent short. Replaced the fuse ($11 at Repco) and all troubles are gone.

That’s good. I remember checking the fuse and it was good. Was the fuse itself loose or cracked?

Hi mate, it was just so everslightly cracked. I reckon just a little spike in alternator charge or something else that caused it to have a little melt on it. It is the 80Amp fuse in front of the battery box. Took a little to find out and it gave me read on the Ohm meter but once I took it off I could see that it was not quite right.
