Thats upsetting, I would have preferred the Australian built car to win that comparison.

Where's the mondeo designed and built? Is it German? Holden needent worry, all the red sheep will flock together and still outsell the mondeo 15 to 1.
You'd hope that the Aussie model would come out in top - but not to be.

You guys are kidding arn't you ? and I'm a Sportwagon luver but not in the bs 6pack and gearbox.
I'll have a SS anyday if I really had the need or clubsport model. Mondeo have been catching my eye of late and I followed a white Titanium the other day looked lower as well, very nice. German built if I'm right.

I have a sportswagon, drove the mondeo and didnt like it, So went the SV6 sportswagon, I won't say i love it but it isnt a bad car to drive.
Should have gone the SS V8 but the SV6 goes well, just miss the sound of a V8, especially when i don't pay for petrol anymore. |

I'm wondering the reason why Ford chose not to import the Ecoboost Stationwagon,
that may have given Commodore Sportwagon even more pain but having said that, I'm seeing a lot more sign written Rep cars, so it looks like Mondeo might be taking hold. |

That was a big reason i also went the Sportswagon the rear wheel drive, Plus i think the look of them is tops as well. I went Voodoo blue Met
dislikes Front pillars make a wicked blind spot 6spd auto sometimes has a delay when i stomp on it, while it shifts down gears. |

The commy looks better in that top pic.
I think I would love a dark blue ss sportswagon with some nice 20 inch wheels. Last edited by Ben73; 01-12-2011 at 10:23 PM. |

slightly off topic, but has anyone else noticed the layout of this article is exactly the same as wheels put in their mag?

Why are they measuring boot space with the rear seats down. I'd rather know the difference with them up if I needed a wagon for a family.

Surprised they bagged the VEs handling so much. Think they handle ok for a large car.

Yet again people bagging foreign built cars for no other reason that they are non-aussie made.
People, have some faith in your hard-earned cash, why buy a car purely based on the fact that is Australian? Remember that at the end of the day, better built foreign cars force local manufacturers to raise their standards. (We are not talking about the cost of Chinese manufacturing vs. Australian manufacturing here!) |

the link to said article above(page 44), after reading that it would be hard to go the commy over the mondeo. |

I rented for a few days a current VE Calais, liked it's motor but it feels tinny, like cheap tinfoil compared to the solidity of the Mondeo Titanium that's used as a daily family hack here on crappy pot holed roads. Calais is a tad easier to collapse into according to wifie. I had been expecting better from the Aussie built item, just not there though. The tarted Commodore doesn't have rear fogs either, but for some god unknown reason has front, only half he job:-). Found the Calais Auto Lights function annoying, either get DRL's or remove the function. I prefer the latter option.

Granted, like the GM 6 motor, and Commies tail, for comfort- liked Calais whale handling, absorbs pot holes well, despite NVH. It was kinda like a bar brawler the Calais, something you can not give too much of a stuff about as it does it's job of getting you about., and that in itself can be relaxing! Good for fleets. |

Good win by Ford. The Mondeo is an underrated car.
If only they had the turbo 5 in a wagon format.... Weird comparison though, SV6 vs Diesel? Either way the Mondeo certainly held its own. I do like the sportswagon (esp in SSV form) but if it came down to it, the Mondeo would be my choice. Better built, better tech and a better handler.

b) Ford does not import the Mondeo Ecoboost stationwagon c) ADRs require changes to Mondeo's ECE wiring, every model changed costs more. Quote:
I suspect they are very supply limited due to FoE ordering and building.. |

i'm amused that people still think performance and handling are big sellers. yes i guess they are, but they don't need to be anywhere near the level that people on here seem to have a fixation with. have a look at the bulk of the cars that are selling like hot cakes. corolla, mazda3, suv's, 4wd's, camry, etc etc.
many are 4cyl and front wheel drive. it isn't an issue with 90% of the buying public. so many times when a car is reviewed on AFF it is useless if it doesn't go like stink or handle like a race car. seriously, step out in the real world. |

also extremely vulnerable to high oil prices and changing community views on Carbon emissions.. I think Ford is much better off pursuing fuel efficient vehicles, it may seem strange that the volume levels are low but sourcing global platforms from another region is far more commercially secure than investing capital into local products for long term recovery. |
