Some options and a Badge.

At least it's not a sticker.

Got a quote yesterday on the Lowndes ute. Basically just a replacement for the rip curl pack. I asked the salesman if the stickers would peel off. He wasn't happy, probably didn't help the price...

yep, sounds like a replacment of RipCurl ute, Fords great idea for the year..."Lets remove the Ripcurl badge, and replace it with XR by lowndsie!!" top effort for Ford...probably got the guy with the idea some sort of bonus:

The Cobra ute will be released alongside the Cobra GT at the Sydney Motor show! Same spec as the Gt 40th anniversary but with 302kw. deisgned to commerate the Moffat Bond 1-2 finish at bathurst, needless to say all are white with blue Stripes! You will also most likely also see the release of the FPV F6 Territory, New mondeo will be on sale as well as the Focus convertable! Bit happening for the blue Oval later this year! Thank God!! :

WTF give me a better idea on what you guys would to try to move utes that doesnt involve dropping 600hp Orion engines into the current shape! Theyre runouts and its about time Ford did a Lowndes edition XR hes only been driving for them for the last 6 years! They missed the boat with a Lowndes/Whincup Bathurst 06 model. Good to see Ford tying in special/new editions with Bathrust, theyre learning...slowly.

I find it interesting that people complain about dodgy run-out marketing specials today when that's all the Cobra was 30 years ago!

Will we be immortalising Rip Curl utes in 2037?

I dont have a problem with runouts as long as they dont use a historical (performance) name like Cobra, unless it gets the correct updates (including even a slight engine tickle) rather than just an extra badge or stripe and little else.

As for Rip Curls, and Lowndes and Enforcers great..the more the better..

If I were FPV Id have a commemarative Touring Car Championship model inline To celebrate Fords 20 or 25 or 30 Championships (or whatever significant number will be next) as they have won way more than Holden and many people dont realise it. It would also show Fords commitment to racing (and more importantly Racing "Results") on the showroom floor. I want to see HO badly but even that will only be recreating a ledgend rather than showng an overall 40+ years dominance. Can anyone say collectable?

see ford would save so much money if they stopped wasting money in these stupid little projects and looking at redesigning the models completely. I mean a few new badges and different stiching isnt make rake in the big bucks. Similar to that stupid ripcurl ute with the dodgey seat covers. I mean holden arent making the "mark skaife" ve utes are they??. I love ford at heart but i question there marketing methods sometimes.
They claim to be loosing big bucks and are relying on the new orions next year so heavily, but yet continue these little "pet projects" to boost sales!?. Can just think of a few things i'd do differently if i was in ford but only one mans opinion i guess.

But dude, they have no money to waste! Thats why its so long between drinks! BA-Orion. The cheapest way to maintain some/any interest in these cars is 'dodgy' limited editions! At least their being creative, we know they're just 'SR' or 'Marlin' or 'Limited Edition' utes, but giving them a theme makes them more interesting! These little 'pet projects' DO boost sales! They throw in a whole lot of crap for not much more than the stadard RRP!

All Ford's dosh was spent on AU2, BA1 and then spread over BF-BF2 theres no more dollars to left be rung out of the big blue wallet and spent on the current platform. Regardless of how and why, its the position Ford Oz are in. We cant do anything except deal with it until Orion arrives.

I find it funny that the "Cobra's" that they are commemerating, actaully started life as XB's not XC Cobras... :P

Why can't FPV see out the BA-BF shape with a bang... ala the AU T3's?

well Ford has a history of selling driver specials. The John Goss hardtops, the Allan Moffat XCs, the Dick Johnson XD and XEs(were these trickled by Dick himself like the Brock cars were? they were serviced through Ford with full parts back up etc.), I think there were a Glenn Seton & Allan Jones versions of the E series, Rusty's BA Enforcer XR8s, and Marcos's XR8. Those early X series cars, while not a huge dollar collector cars now (except the JG Hardtops) are unique enough to earn a few more dollars from enthusiats buyers.

Holden or HSV may not have made the Mark Skaife $h!tbox, but they have released, the GTR, the GTS, the GTS-R, and all manner of letter combos to sell their run outs.

They cost next to nothing to build, all they need to do is make a new badge for it and a bit of advertising. Its a clever and cheap way to boost sales and create a bit of interest in old models. This money from extra sales then goes into future development costs. They can't just let sales fritter away to nothing, they have to do what they can to keep the cash registers ticking over until Orion comes.

Holden do it too, they had the LE Monaros, the Commodore V and Lumina and the storm utes etc.

I find it confusing that Ford are commemorating the 1977 Bathurst win with a "Cobra" ute...considering the XC Cobra was released in 1978...

Maybe a Moffatt ute would have been more appropriate???

Skaife was also behind the Senator 300 cars...
Either way, these packs are good value, and at least they're relating it to a driver, not bloody rip curl. Funnily enough, there's still quite a few Rip Curl utes around...
