Question New focus owner - help please

hi guys,
im the new owner of a 2008 focus lt 2.0 tdci (1st newish car i've owned), & also a new ford forums member 2. just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of advice on the vehicle. when i turn off the car, if i leave my mobile charger plugged into the ciggie lighter port, it stays on and doesnt turn off... is this normal? the odometer light on the instrument panel stays on for a while and then turns off after a while, but the cigarette lighter port doesnt. also when i purchased the vehicle (on friday 10th of june at subaru doncaster), i had a parrot bluetooth installed as an extra, but for some reason the cruize control buttons dont work on the steering wheel (are they meant to light up also like the other instrument buttons?).
if anyone could please give me a bit of a heads up on this it'd be much appreciated.
cheers,

ricky

its all normal with the cigarette lighter and odometer. The cruise control buttons do not light up on my LT model TDCI in fact only way to know its working is after you "set" cruise a warning light appears on the speedo cluster

Thanks marg99, might need to take it back into the dealer to check out the cruise control as it doesnt work at all. other than that, seems to be a good drive so far.

usually the cruise control is on the same fuse as the brake lights, so double check the fuse for these . The owners manual is silent about fuses for cruise control and of no help.

The cruise control is a bit confusing.

Press the on button, then press the plus button to increase speed and it should come on.

the owner's manual is useless for fuses anyway. the layout shown in the book is nothing like the actual layout, nor do the numbers match up at all.

I was questioning this as well the other night. Cruise control buttons on the wheel are NOT illuminated it seems. Silly oversight if you ask me.

You should have got a stat warranty with that car?? (or is that a NSW only thing?) 3 months / 5,000km.

I would also go through all the electronics, pop in a CD etc.

Actually once you understand it you will find it very simple.

I bought my 08 Focus Sedan and took off shortly afterwards on a 5,500klm trip up and back the east coast an reckon 95% of the trip was done using finger tip driving with the Cruise Control.

Hi Yellow Festiva, yeah the non-illuminated steeringwheel controls are a bit of a downer, especially if you dont have soft fingertips to feel the little nodes that indicate where each button is in the dark. we do get the 3 month stat warranty here in melb, it's only been a week, so im well covered, and luckily have another 3 years of normal warranty to keep me assured. all the other electrics are working well, just the black plastic in between the driver and passenger doors thats a bit loose (need to stick it down). the accelleration of the lights is going to take a bit of getting used to though, bit slower then the petrol cars i've had over the years. Sailaway, i took the car for a squizz along the western ring road, and up the monash freeway over the last couple of days, gave me a chance to try out the cruise control, works well, and i've gotten used to it now. seems like your cruise control gets a good workout! 95% is pretty impressive. be good in keeping the speeding tickets down ey!

So I'm not the only one.... sometimes it sounds like someone is using a mouse in the car when I'm on the freeway with all the + and - clicks to adjust the speed.

I reckon using cruise control, you seem to use more fuel, having it set to 90 on my daily trip to work and just hanging around 90 without cruise, I seem to use less fuel over the tank.

wish i could do the same there Big Damo, unfortunately my area's become pretty congested over the last 10 years, i have to deal with the stop start's all the way to work. the cruise control would ey, keeps the speed steady and no cramping toes over long distances.

hey guys, just another question. popped a cd into the cd player yesterday, but it wouldn't play, it had mp3's on it so was unsure if it was because of that. then went on to try an audio cd, had no probs whatsoever. so i've gone on the assumption that the 2008 tdci stock stereo doesn't support mp3's, can anyone correct me on this if im wrong. would just b a tad dissapointing if a 2008 model doesnt support mp3's.

mine's an LT TDCi, yeah pretty dissapointing. any ideas on the aftermarket head units on ebay? alot seem to be in from Hong Kong.

has anyone had any issues/success with these? as handy as the AUX is, not too keen on having wires hanging off my dash. rather a head unit that fits the vehicle that supports mp3's.

The LV Mk 2 TDCi does not play MP3 cds, but will play MP3 music etc if put on a USB flash drive. The USB is then plugged in to the USB plug under the armrest. Then controlled by radio controls. Works well.
