Default another speed camera question

did a searc. got to page ten,so sorry if its already covered. going along the highway(qld rules) a car went past me in the right hand lane .i was doing 115 in a 110. he was maybe doing 120. so he is going past me . tail gate level with my front door by this stage. AND FLASH. so did they get him or me. the camera was on my side of the road. also can they send the fine, with 2 cars in the picture? mine would have been more visable. how far over the limit do you have to be before they ping you. cheers mick

Depends which lane the camera was focussed on. If it was a multi lane setup, then they could get both of you. You only have to be exceeding the posted limit to attract a fine (ie 111 in 110 zone will do it). However, most states have at least 3 km/h tolerance, and add to that the fact that your speedo has around the same error (if not worse), and you should be totally safe.

The proof will (or won't) be in the mail inside the next 3 weeks, but i would be totally surprised if you got done if what you say is accurate (and I have no reason to doubt what you said above).

Yeah, as pre post above if your speedo said 115 your road speed would have only likely been just 110 to 112. A bit of tolerance added to that 'should' see you in the clear. If a multi lane set up they can get you both if you WERE both speeding though.

Check you speedo with a GPS unit if you have or can borrow one as they seem to be much more accurate. Eg, my BA XR6 is doing a road speed of 96 at an indicated 100, MY07 Forester 92 at indicated 100, and NC Sportsman 98 at indicated 100.

'Fingers Crossed' you should be ok.

The trick is, once you feel a bit better about it, is to forget what I said so you go back to thinking that indicated is true speed - then you still have the inbuilt protection there of the speedo over-read.

i was thinking , how do they know which car was going faster. probally was just trained on my lane. i,m not fussed. won,t be over too much. lucky was in my hilux and not the f6. heee hee heee, 12 points at the ready bombs away. lol. my tyres are bigger on the hilux mabye 3 km faster. it was,nt deliberate speeding so . alls good. just was under the impression if two cars were in the picture, how you could get the right guy.anyways thanks for the replys.

AS far as I know if there is another vehicle in the shot they can't do you. But our tassie cameras might be older than other states. I've had cameras flash at me several times and have always seem to not get anything in the mail. I was in this exact situation. I was doing about 120 in a 100. It was late night and was giving it a bit and a commy flew past me at about 140. This was on a country highway. The camera flashed right at me as he was going past and didnt get anything. although of course SPEEDING IS BAD. don't do it.

i know in nsw,

how the camers work is NOT RADAR

they are a canculation of the 2 strips on the road...
eg time taken for wheels to hit the 1st then the 2nd

and its checked on the rear wheels aswell (why they also get trucks... it goes off twice ;) )

so... yes... they can get 2 people in one shot...... but 90% of the time they wont as the cameras are quite inaccurate unless it has direct line of sight of the plate AND the correct lane as they are all measured independant
