If you move before it is suspended, you start fresh (soon to change, as the points will be the same all over Oz), but as already said, if it is already suspended, Im pretty sure it stays that way.

My brother held a Tasmanian licence and lost it for 12months when driving in Victoria. The automatic cancellation (>45kmh over) was only for the state he was caught driving in (Victoria) and his licence was still current in all other states. However, when he got to about 11 months through his Victorian suspension, the demerit points went through in Tasmania, and he lost it for a further 6 months. This six month suspension was for ALL states however because Tasmania had suspended it, and it was a Tasmanian licence. He was unable to tranfer to a VALID Victorian licence at this time, but could transfer it and wait out the 6 month suspension.

Sorry about the confusing story, I hope you can understand it. There was also some additional confusion because Tasmania had not cancelled his Victorian Learners when he got his P's in Tasmania, and so in the end his Victorian L's had accumulated 13 points on them (yes, you can get demerits on your L's now, not your supervising driver!) and further stopped him from transferring to a Victorian Licence, but I guess thats not applicable.

Ok (don't take this as gospel, this was just how it went for us), in short, if you lose your licence in ANOTHER state that is not the one your licence is issued in, then you keep your licence except for in that state that you lost it. If you lose it in your home state, then you're rooted.

yep and it wont help much getting an interstate licence and then just driving around because it will still be on the system so when you get pulled over and flash your licence if they check your name and get a red flag then theyll start asking questions and you dont want that esp with a fraudulently obtained licence.

For some people its worth the hastle though...

No you cant.

Plus you have to have proof of residency in other states, and you usally have to transfer your car rego upto that state too.

Its not worth it, do the time Im sure you lost it for some vaild reason.

(Iv looked into this heavily but by the time I get to go to court to contest my redlight fine I will have had my full license for many many months)

Easy as pie. My car has been rego'd in Vic in my name, and I've been driving with a Tasmanian licence here for years, never a question about it. I needed it to get to school when I was 17 (350km's away), plus I only had to show P plates for a year, and ended up on my fulls when I was 20. Proving residency is as easy as taking in a bank statement for the address required in most cases :P

I think when you apply for a transfer one of the questions is whether your license has been suspended in another state or not. Well, it is in Qld anyway.

If you dont' transfer within x months of moving there can be large fines.

No you cant hold a valid licence in 1 state and a cancelled licence in another state, the truckies abused the system so the loop hole got closed.

So no licence for you ........ NEXT!

Look, if it's important that you have a licence (ie. for work) I'm sure you can get another valid one in another state depending on which state (their interstate relations are woeful at best), it'll just take a bit off effort. If you get caught out though, be prepared to be royally ****** over.

My brother did just that. His L plates accrued 13 points (different incidents) before being suspended, which had no impact on his Tassie licence. He kept his Tassie licence until the 6 points (caught by an officer this time) went through in Tassie 11 months later. The other 7 points never came across for whatever reason, so the system is just a joke.

As a side note, despite what my Avatar depicts what I might enjoy doing, I've never lost a point and am a very safe driver Dual licenses was not intentional, however the CBF factor comes into it when informing vicroads etc of their mistake. I honestly have no idea where my Vic licence is, but I know it's still current.

EDIT: rearranged some stuff to make more sense :P

The computer systems are getting smarter by the minute and linked, to stamp out car re-birthing and people abusing licence points, it is a privilege after all.

So as they say, its just a matter of time, till a back track finds yours *** and fines the hell out of it ....... LOL

As long as IBM is in charge of E-Justice, leap and Vicroads. THE SYSTEM WILL NEVER GET SMARTER

O wait thats right Vicroads is with a Asian company now its slowly getting better.

You know the funniest thing though about how your points get across to the vicroads system from leap etc. They send a tape over every 3 days and that tape is uploaded into the vicroads system, visa versa.
