Default TC advice

I am almost 100% getting a TC wagon. It comes with a stuffed 2 litre and good 4 speed. Also has a rebuilt unstarted warm 2 litre to go in.

At home i already have a XE with a original 90k 4.1 that runs perfect.

What i need to decide is to either put the reco 2 litre or the 4.1 into the TC? What needs to be done to fit the 4.1? Is it a straight bolt into the TC with bigger radiator needed? I'm also guessing different springs. What about brakes?

Any help would be good. I dont have a garage and the driveway is on a slope so i might have to have this done by a mechanic. The 2 litre looks tiny so theres a chance i could get that in with the help of a mate but the 4.1 would be way too heavy.

what about diffs? Did the 2litre and 4.1 use the same one?

I think that you will find the TC 4cyl's engine bay is too short for a 4.1. Unless you have a very late TC and they all had the 6cyl engine bay as the TD onwards had.

I think that you will find the TC 4cyl's engine bay is too short for a 4.1. Unless you have a very late TC and they all had the 6cyl engine bay as the TD onwards had.

the 4 cyl diff would be way too low in ratio for the 6 cylinder engine too.

all the engine bays are the same just the bonnet from 4 to 6 is different.diff gears in the 4s are lower so will make it feel quick off the mark to put the xe motor in a cortina ya will need to change the sump oil pickup and the dipstick to a cortina one. i hope this info is of some help to you mate feel free to ask any questions

No no they are not. Most (but not all) 4 cyl TC's that I have seen don't have the recessed firewall for the 6 cylinder engine.

Once you got to TD,TE and TF all of the engine bays were set up for the 6 regardless of engine size.

All is not lost though as you can change the firewall or just use a V6 or V8 in your short engine bay.

My TC was one of the first 2lts and had a flat firewall. Before they made them all with recessed firewall. No way a 6would have gone it in without a new firewall or lots of cutting.

I'd go the 4cyl diff with 6cyl motor if its got better ratios.
