Ford just announced the figures for the new 2.7 EcoBoost. It makes 325HP/375lb-ft (243Kw/508Nm) in the F150. That's tuned for fuel economy and durability, what could this engine achieve in a Mustang? In the video, it looks like it spanks the Ram 3.0L diesel and Chevy 5.3L V8. This 2.7 is the same engine that will be used in the 2015 Edge Sport. The trailers they are pulling in the video weigh 7000lbs (3181 Kg).

That's interesting. But at wot, the echo boost would be using way way more fuel than the diesel, and about the same as the v8 as power costs fuel.
When using low power, sure it might be good.... |

While the fuel consumption argument is strictly correct, at least the EcoBoost offers you the choice of economy or performance which neither the V8 or diesel can do.
Cheers Russ

That thing kicks butt, I would be interesting to see, what the fuel usage is if it just kept pace with the others, as opposed to WOT.
Id also be interested in what the sticker price would be in comparison to the diesel. normally diesels are higher, but this is a pretty trick motor so they may be alligned. To drive I would imagine it gives that low end turbo pick up feel you get from a diesel turbo, (something I love) but also give the rev range of a petrol V6. all whilst being quiet. I'm keen to drive the Edge sport when it arrives!

Pretty impressive, i would love to repower my 13 year old falcon engine with one of these, fuel economy would be awesome, and it would probably handle even better than it does how with the inline six, and it would go like a scalded cat,

This would be the motor in a global Falcon if they were to be making one :(

I could see Ford using it in a Fusion/Mondeo ST with AWD. (Same platform as the Edge).

Although I see Explorer gets the 3.5L Ecoboost now http://www.ford.com/suvs/explorer/sp...ations/engine/ Interesting comparison to the n/a does anyone know is this basically the same block? the 2.7 in the F150 has nearly the same power and slightly more Torque

Seems people doing up older cars shy away from EFI (as in cars that were pre-efi) which I think is a shame, EFI is good and can make a car nicer to drive. |

http://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-raci...hp/p/M600735T/ $8300 which doesn't include EMS, sensors, or wiring. Then what about fuel system for something thats direct injected? Or you can get the new 5L for $6300: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...-m50/overview/ + $1500 for EMS: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...504v/overview/ I guess when you've got something from the 70s/80s, $10K+ with what you already have under the hood probably gets you further. Completely unrelated engine. The 2.7 has a compacted graphite iron engine, whereas the 3.5 has an aluminium-alloy engine. I believe the 2.7 block is also smaller. The 2.7 also has the stop/start feature.
