I have an EA fairmont
I am about to sell it, and the guy wants to pick it up. Now, I got the car off an old lady who had it since new (for free). Its done 240,000km It is not running at the moment...reason being is the radiator was stuffed (hole), fan was snapped, and water pump was SNAPPED off. She said that a mechanic quoted her $1000 to fix the problem, and she didnt have the funds for it, so she took it off the road. The car turns over very well. Is there any reason for it not to start if the buyer brings radiator and water pump? One of my guesses would have been that it could have a blown motor as by the looks of it, the fan must have come loose or something, hit the radiator punchering a hole in it, and snapping the water pump off.. Could this have blown it up??..possibly... But if it was blown, it wouldnt turn over would it? I have blown up an EF ex cab once (belt snapped and i kept driving it, ignoring the warning signs), after it stopped..everytime you try and start it, it would just make a loud noice from the starter motor as if its slipping (similar noice as when the car is running and you turn the key to start it). My question is, Is there any reason for it not to start? Its a carby thing, so eventhough it hasnt been run in 2years, you can just throw some juice down the carby. I have never tried to fully start it (turn over yes) as its got no water to the motor, and it would probably blow in a split second right? Any comments/sugestions would be highly appriciated!! Thanks guys!

If it turns over it should start I reckon. Even if it has a blown head gasket it should still run, however badly.
I'd say you seized your EF. |

theres 2 injectors in the "carby thing", and it wont blow if u start it with out water, u could go few minutes as long as it still stays relatively cool ie touch the head but ye if u start if for 30seconds or so, i wouldnt worry about it

thats how thermostats work anyway... stay closed until the motor gets to a certain temp...
Just start the beast, let her idle for 10 seconds and then shut her down.

thanks for that guys!
I have tried 2 start it, however it wont fire up...turns over like a brand new car (real quick), but just wont fire up. Put fuel down the carby chambers, nothing. I guess it comes down to plugs or coil which I will check after 4 as its soo damn hot!
