I have been faced with the decision to either buy a 200kw Subaru Forester (Feral Forester from January 2005 Issue of Fast Fours Year Book) for bout $30,000 and this is being influenced by my dad who has a WRX. Or I have a EF Falcon that I could drop a nice little hair drier into and put the same money into the car. Has anyone supercharged thier falcon? If so what kind of power are your getting from it and what quarter mile times are you getting?

I've supercharged my EA. Getting 188.6rwkw atm. Setup includes 4.0litre EF engine, powerdyne supercharger with 9psi pulley, straight gas (gas research gear), intercooled, CAI, XR6 head with mild porting and decked 40 thou, a 1004 wade cam, pacemaker headers and 3 inch exhaust all the way. A few things that are capping my power include the fact it's still running standard timing maps and that it's running water injection ATM(which was only put on since it's running high compression and has no means of adjusting timing). Oh and it's an auto as well.
Once i get the haltech installed, i will also get rid of the water injection which should free up a little bit of power. She'll also be manual, bigger cooler and a ported intake manifold, so that should free up a few ponies on the dyno. Unfortunately i haven't had a chance to run her down the quarter, but have a look in our quarter mile/dyno thread at the top of the page to get an idea of what a boosted e-series can run down the quarter...

I have a vortech kit for sale, includes cooler, injectors, fuel pump, brackets, 9psi pulleys and so forth.
I still want to put this on my car but if some one offers a reasonable price i will part with it. I was expecting at least 250wrkw from this kit. (Was aiming for 300) With e S/C there is less heat under the engine bay and it’s a different kind of boost. The Subaru is a fantastic car my mum has a standard one and my brother has a fully sick mod’d one which is quite quick. Personally I look much better in a coon.

The only way id spend 30k on a e series is if it was one of the following:
EL/EB GT Sprint FBT Even then thats pushing it.

another vote for the Scoobie... blown falcons are everywhere and unfortunatley the resale is capped by the BAXR6T's floating around 2nd hand for 20k...

That looks just like my brothers, it’s fast down low but it’s like a bus up high. A brick isn’t that aerodynamic
Very nice car never the less

WRX fair enough, Liberty maybe. But Foresters are for transporting pensioners to the RSL and taking the kids to school.

you all make a good case, i think i will decide to stay a true aussie and keep my falcon, who give a **** about which is faster off the line, im just doin it for a few strip runs and some huge *** burnouts. unfortunely the suby would let me down in that area, plus i have had an offer to have a 400 horse supercharged motor to be built for $10,000, plus this is a lil town, and the only thing that i have ever seen that was supercharged was a commodore. everything else are ИИИИen skylines and sylvias. so it would be something different.

It depends on application??? You can tow a boat with a turbo Falcon but I doubt I'd do that with the Rex... Btw an STI is heaps more expensive than WRX or Forester....

Personally, I'd keep the Falcon and modify it, I'm struggling to see what makes that Forrester so appealing, and I don't see the point in spending money on cars then worrying about resale value...... $30,000 wisely spent on an EF would make a very unique and fast car.

I say spend 15 maximum 20.. you dont need to go insane for a nice car. 2500 for full custom interior another 2 grand say for a decent stereo 5 for a top shelf full custom respray.. and tops 10 for driveline suspension and brakes... you dont need to spend 30grand just cos you have it

30k = 10 sec falc if done right...
reliability would be the Q though.

A quick 1/4 mile car doesn't make it terribly street friendly in most cases also...A 14 sec well handling/ braking balanced car would be better...Though with turbo and slicks power can be turned up for 10 seconds or so..
