Default XR6T or XR8 Rental in Sydney?

Does anyone know where to hire an XR6T or XR8 in Sydney?

My folks are visiting and my old man would like to hire an XR6T but I guess an XR8 would do if they are available.

There seems to be everything else available from Porches to BMWs but no Fords.

everytime dad goes to sydney on work for 2 days he hires an XR6 NA BF through avis. he has to drive 2 hours to his works head office and the cost of a 2 day car hire is cheaper then a 1 way taxi trip plus you dont have some terrible cabbie out to kill you and you have the added bonus of the car in between. hes jagged a BF 1 XR8 in Vixen once but was told there was only a couple in the fleet. never been able to get a turbo

XR6 N/A only. You'd be hard pressed finding a mainstream rental company that will rent out 'performance' cars - and even if they did you'd be hamstrung with all the conditions and limits.

Most of Thrifty and Hertz have switched to Toyota Aurions for that hire car category; the majority of Hertz's Ford stock are clapped out BFs; Thrifty have a couple of FGs but not many.

Ford have said they will not slash prices for the rental car market anymore. Kind of explains the absence of FG's.

They are still allowed to buy them, but Ford are not offering the same discounts they used to. It will hopefully stop the tidal wave of ex-rentals flooding the auctions and killing the re-sale......

you'd have to look for a specialty rental company who will make you put down the deed to your house to rent the car.

Shame - shouldn't really cost that much more and would be market (although niche) that is not really that well tapped.

Seems as though you can only hire rep mobiles or go pay stupid $ for something more exotic.

Saw in Germany that you could hire a Boxster for Au$280 a day - though avis!

(was going to but had too much luggage - C220 for $110!)

wonder how much they detune the porsche, and have little sensors in it to tell them when you speed ;)

ok, I'll check Avis.

We hired an MX5 a few years ago to do a similar trip up to the central coast. This time I am going up to the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival as it my dad's home town

Sensors to tell when you speed? - the autobahn had no real speed limit!

(even at 170 kmh you had to keep an even eye in the rear vision mirror for something moving quick - you heard them first though)

Avis was only really concerned if you took it to a country where you had no insurance cover.

unfortunately you'll find that if the main companies all rented out turbo's and v8's, there'd be the select bunch of people who would thrash the hell out of them, rendering them useless in a very short time.

They could always Flash Tune them with a Valet tune so they would not rev over 3500 rpm would make it harder to Thrash them.

You can sometimes get an xr8 from Hertz but i think only if you are a "premium" customer, like very frequent renter. Not sure if you have to request quite a bit in advance though.

i'd say just go for a G6E - bloke across the road works in melbourne mon-fri and comes up to see family on the weekends. he hires from Avis - usually a falcon(even though its a holden family) - had a G6E over the weekend, before that XR6's etc all FG's since they came out

Thumbs down Avis - Hobart. Lift your game!

Hope i can be indulged by taking this slightly off topic.

Have rented cars a few times from Avis at Hobart Airport. Last Xmas our experience with them was not very good.
First they tried to give me a Falcon with a big dent in the drivers door.
The car had been pre booked weeks earlier, so i did not quite understand her next statement regarding lack of available cars.
When i refused - was offered a Mitsubishi 380. Near new and looked good. That will do. Loaded our bags in the boot and then climbed in. The car absolutely bloody reeked. It was a couple of days after New Years.Obviously somebody had puked in the car. Spent the next 4 days trying various different deodorises to cover the smell. By the time we took it back the smell had receded somewhat.

Fast track to last week and we picked up a Toyota Aurion from Avis at Hobart Airport. The state of the interior was pitiful. The dash and the centre console had been wiped with a very dirty rag. Headed straight to Autobarn to buy some cleaning fluids and a cloth.

The part that i find hard to understand about this is that i always treat rented cars with respect. Yesterday we spent our last hour cleaning the cars interior before returning it. Would normally wash the exterior as well - but i was a bit peeved about picking up a dirty car from them.

Does anybody else have these problems with rental cars?

Rocket.

From chasing an XR to getting a Calais.
Boom boom...

As for the dude cleaning his rental car inside and out before giving it back - that's a bit much! I mean, sure you look after them, as in don't do anything to it that you wouldn't do in your own car, but detailing it before you give it back...come on...

Actually I've just had a "rental car experience".

Asked for a large auto sedan.

Got a Nissan X-trail...

I tell you what though, it would give the VZ company car (which is currently in the workshop - the reason I'm hiring a car) a run for it's money in a straight line.

Interesting, I know a guy here at work that was driving Cairns to Bris once upon a time and similarly got a unexpected bonus in a XR8. I wonder why these vehicles are seen at all if they're not part of what they 'normally' rent.
