Default Auditioning for Ford Ads

My Brother in Law just picked a new XLT Ranger just before Christmas in Sydney. Yesterday he got asked if he would like to audition for Ford and some up coming advertisements. Anyone heard of that before and a reason why he got picked? Does everyone who bought a new Ranger in Sydney get to audition. I think he is pretty excited.

the dealers were probably asked to look out for a particular type of person to portray the image they wanted

rancid,

describe your brother in-law? Regular lookin fella? Ford would want a regular fella, not too pretty, moderately masculine. I presume they would want a normal lookin chap so the regular tradie can identify with him and relate to possibly buying the Ranger.

that's not how the ads I have heard go, the guy buying the terry says I want to know your best price don't mess me around then I bought (paraphrasing here) I can see they are trying to get the point across that Frod dealers are willing to deal to get your business

And that's probably the way the public is supposed to interpret them, but I don't interpret it that way at all. Anyone who's bought a new car before knows that if you walked up to a dealer right now, said give me your best price, the 'best price' isn't going to be the lowest price.

Which then brings me to think, why is Ford advertising this like it's a new thing? If you want a new car, you can walk into any stealership of any make, say i want X, what's your best price, and drive away in one thats not your preferred colour today.

I'm sure ford have worked out that individual anecdotes of people paying whatever the dealer told them to pay is a much better advertising strategy than telling the masses that the ecoboost falcon chews less fuel than a mazda six and is more roomy than an suv and faster than an XR8 from the 90s.

Yep... All the new ads your seeing from Ford have real customers in them... Ecoboost G6E "Mother nature loves me"... The high healed Fiesta Zetec driver that "loves her shoe compartment", the Territory husband and wife who "bought two they were so good!", the Mondeo Ecoboost driver that "loves the power, as does his 4 year old daughter" and old mate with the white TX "I screwed the dealer and did the deal on my first ever new car". Maybe they could come do an advertisement on me... Hell I've bought enough.

Well I'm glad to know that they don't hire from an agency now.
On the downside, the Ecoboost Falcon and Territory ads are dismal. They aren't trying hard enough to keep the local products relevant.

Most tradies would expect $125 an hour wouldn't they ? They charge you $80 - $100 just to rock up to the front door

So should tradies work for free as well as the people who work at Ford dealerships. Go buy a hammer and tape at Bunnings and knock it up yourself. That's all they need isn't it.

Hi there ,

The Casting Institute is casting another series for Ford “Another Smart Reason” campaign and we’re looking for Ford Ranger drivers to be involved.

We understand that your business owns one or more Ford Rangers, so I’m writing to invite you or your Ford Ranger driving employees to be a part of the casting process.

Here’s some info about the project for you:

Overall we are shooting 16 new TV commercials for this campaign.
We are looking for 4 Ranger Drivers who may fit into the following demographic;

● Male mid/late 30s.
● Men who think with their hands.
● They are self made entrepreneurs (most likely they own a business or are in management roles)
● They are proud of what they do.
● For them it’s not just a car, its their livelihood.

We will be shooting in a documentary style and we are interested in your story. For an example of the previous commercials,
Check out: www.ford.com.au/whyilovemyford

The shoot dates are still to be locked in: We are shooting either in the last week of March or the first week of April.

Shoot location: Victoria and NSW

Release: 12 months National TV, Online, Radio, Press & dealerships

Fees paid: You will be paid a base rate of $250 for 4 hours of your time.

Please note that some of the commercials shot will not go to air. Other commercials may end up being edited into multiple TV commercials.

Further fees applicable If the TV commercials that you’re in go to air:
Adults: Loading of $1250 for up to 2 x 30 sec. TV commercials (which would play over a 12 month period) + release online radio press and dealerships

Adults: Further loading of $1000 per additional TV commercial (over two commercials that go to air) including online, radio & press and dealerships
THE PROCESS:

If you're interested in being involved or would like some more information, please contact us ASAP, either by return email OR you can call ..............

From here we will organize a suitable audition time, preferably by Skype, or Melbourne based participants are welcome to come into our studio in Balaclava.

We will also require a photograph of the driver and the car they drive please.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Casting Director

A girl at work recently bought a Fiesta and got a similar invite from Ford.

Another mate was walking through a shopping center with his 2 sons (roughly 4 and 2 year old) and was approached by people looking for people for photographic shoot. They were after a particular "look" father & son combination and wanted him and is 4 y/o.

On another note, the older Ford add where they were "towing a mountain of snow up a mountain" featured some of their engineers. One of the guys speaking on that add about the diesel terri's power has an identical twin brother who is also a mechanical engineer (went to my uni) and who works at Holden in Product Development... Imagine how much ****** he would have copped at work when his identical twin is advertising the opposition!

Don't know if this was aimed directly at my comment or not but I was only implying that you'd think they would make it worth their while and offer them a decent amount of pay for their time and effort :( I wouldn't give 4 hours of my time and the use of my vehicle for $125 for advertising a product as such, I would expect more than that By the way I do go to Bunnings buy the materials and do most things myself, I'm fortunate to have the skills to do so

Well I would do it for free as a bit of fun and life experience.

It is not my job so I would not expect to be paid for it and more importantly I would be doing my little bit to help Ford Australia and how can that be a bad thing.

I would still think that Ford could offer people something a little more generous for their efforts than $125 for 4 hours, even throwing in a free service or something would be a nice gesture, that's just my feelings, and seeing as I have owned about a dozen or more Ford vehicles (and still own one) since I was old enough to drive, I would say I have given a fair amount of support to Ford over the years
