Default Help - new locks!

Hi all,

Well the worst has happened with the new XG ute - we were only given one key. My girlfriend's had the key and has been waiting to get a new one cut...

Our 3 year old found the key on the bench and it's now gone.... we can't find it ANYWHERE.

I'm assuming the locks (both door and ignition) are similar to those in the EBII/ED series.... it's got smartlock, but not with a remote.

How much would it cost to have the two door locks (since it's a ute) plus the ignition lock replaced?

Aaaargh what a waste of money... we're gonna kill him... Yes I could just call up tomorrow, but I figured I'd post now to help get over the initial shock when they come around to do the work. :(

if you give ford the Vin number i believe a new key can be ordered

Or i believe a moblie locksmith can cut/make a new key on the spot

Naaaah I'm betting it'd be a bit of work to create a key from scratch... I blame the damn kid for stealing the key and losing it. Can't trust those damn 3 year olds!!!

It's a huge pain-in-the-butt as we're supposed to be leaving for the Deni Ute Muster on Thursday (and it's Wednesday now...)... so we have to get a locksmith out ASAP to help us out. :(

Grrrr....

Don't have kids guys.

from a locksmiths perspective:

easiest way is if you have a key code:

1. if you have original owners manuals somewhere will be a key code.
2. otherwise may be stamped on bottom of drivers door lock
3. otherwise may be stamped on ignition lock

if all else fails, pull off ignition and take to locksmith and will work out cheaper...

to cut a xe key to code you prolly shouldnt be charged more than around 30 bucks..

Hmmmm we do have the original manual, but it's *in* the ute... so it's locked in there.

The only way I guess would be to call the RACV to get them to open it, but that's taking a risk - if the code's not in the manual, it's a wasted callout :(

Woohoo turns out the ute's not locked anyway (!!!). My girlfriend's going to try to take the trim off the door and pop the lock out... and take that in. Only $30 to get the key made!!!

(The code's probably in the book but if the code doesn't match the locks - it's a waste of $30).

Well it's done... my girlfriend managed to get the trim off, the door lock out - and they created two new keys for $37 - TOTAL! Absolute bargain!

She's now got the lock back in and is trying to get the trim back on (but is having trouble - almost there though!).

In short - don't call up the 24/7 locksmith's in Melbourne. We saved a lot of $$$$$$$ by having it done at a local locksmith in the mall in Bendigo.

Hahaha well she lives in Bendigo, and I live in Melbourne... I bought the ute for her as a birthday present, so it stays with her.
