Hi guys,
It probably wouldn't interest some of you, but I just had my 10th wedding anniversary yesterday, and thought to myself, considering most today think marriage is over-rated, out dated, and just not worth it, how many others are enjoying a long and successful marriage around the same time frame as me or better? I must admit, marriage is not an easy thing to maintain and keep happy, but the fruits that marriage brings is certainly worthwhile when you have a mate you not only live with but is your best friend and companion. Id like to hear your success stories and ways in which you have kept your marriage alive and interesting. (keep it clean please) :P

I've found that if you can both make it through hard and emotional times together your marriage should last a long time.

I'm not married, but been with Julie 22 years. We also work together and have done for 15 years. So virtually, we are together 24 hours a day.
Theres no real secret to the relationship. We discuss anything and everything that impacts our personal life. Be open and honest, trust, have faith, respect and give as much as you get. It's 50/50, straight down the middle. |

thanks for your replies guys, its great to see some good examples of people making their relationships work.
I think its rare to see some marriages last 5 years let alone 30+. Those that stick out a relationship for as long as even 20 years should congratulated for their commitment. Keep the good comments coming

good points gtxb67, I agree. Its certainly a rarity these days for people to remain committed. All I can say for those still working at it, is keep trying and dont give up.

Congrats blueoval its an amazing ride marriage !
I'll be celebrating 18yrs in March ! my wife and I have discussed for our 20th we will probably renew our vows just for an excuse for a great family party but importantly for our 3kids to see their parents enjoy the moment with them this time. (heck all mighty I hope I haven't put the wood on us ) I'm lucky I have been a selfish bugga over the years but I must be doing something right at times LOL....... Best thing I do is everyday is a new day 110% and when I come home from work the minute I switch off the engine I'm in family mode and I just love seeing my 2youngest run down to the car to greet their Dad,money can't buy that feeling !!! and my wife is a big part of that ofcourse.

15 years for me . besides commenting on a great acheivement of logevity in a marraige, ask the long termers if they are happy. the results will be surprising. also ask anyone who has split up if they are happy, there is 2 questions, and the answer to both will be the same answer. now consider why people stay together. whats the lesser burden ??

We got engaged to be married on Valentines Day 23 years ago, and we are coming up to 22 years married in November. My wife is my best friend and we have been through our ups and downs but its mostly smooth sailing now as we have both matured.
(her more than me ) We married young (me 22 and her 21) and had kids straight away. This was good as I got to grow up with my kids... Communication and patience is the best thing for marraige. Well done to the OP and anyone else with a succecss story.

Some fantastic results guys. Really good to hear some of your experiences.
My thoughts are with those who are struggling out there too. I hope you find happiness soon.

Been with my better half for near on 9 years now, engaged for 8 1/2 of them too. Not bad considering we are only 26 & 27 now.
She lets me spend money on the car so she stays Seriously (just in case she reads this) I couldn't imagine not being with her, we've had hard times but we've also had great times. The good times definitely outweigh the bad so all is well.

Coming up 11 years at the end of the month. Couple of kids (Boys - 8 & 4), few arguments and disagreements along the way... but all to be expected. My wife is the love of my life and I wouldn't want it any other way :
Main thing is to have good communication and just keep talking, never stop talking - and then pretty soon she'll give in to what ever you want |

Jack and I will have been married for 20 years on 21st March this year. We have been together since I was 13 and he was 15. I believe Cob115 and his wife Heather are the same.
I have said it before...will say it again....Anyone that can put up with me for that long is either : or did something in a past life to tick someone off.. Only joking, love my Jack and we will be together until the day we die. We were lucky to meet each other so young... Congrats to you and your wife Shav! I guess I better bring a bottle of Moet with me when I come over on the 28th then hey
