Smile Need exhaust for AU 111 SR

My tailpipe from the rear muffler is rusted away and the car sounds like it has a 'hole in the muffler'. I assumed it was from the rear until I was beside a wall idling and thought the sound came from the middle of the car. Checking underneath confirmed the 'leak' sounds as tho' it's coming from there.

Therefore, it seems I need both mufflers. Does this mean I need an entire exhaust sytem from the motor back? And what is it likely to cost?

Please forgive my being a mechanical retard. I am anything but handy. This forum seems to be a very good source of help for owners so I thought I'd ask. :voldar02:

Welcome to the forums, you've asked the question in the right place. If you have multiple leaks from your exhaust you will be better off replacing it but you will only need to replace it from the catalytic conveter back. All you need to decide is whether you want to retain a stock system or replace it with a performance exhaust which will improve performance and fuel economy. Price will vary from place to place but for a good quality and well priced system for a 6 I believe you can't go past a redback system.

Thanks for the quick response RedXR347. It sounds as though it will be more affordable not having to get the cat and all.

I will go for a good quality system but maybe not a performance one as I only use the car to tow my boat and so try to keep it sound but low-cost. The boat/motor/trailer only weighs about 700kg so it's not struggling with it as is.

A cat back exhaust shouldnt cost more than $300 for a press bent 2.5 inch exhaust. Then it will sound nice. I dont know how much a stocko one is, but I doubt it would be much less.

I got a 2 1/4 inch exhaust when mine died, but then i wish'd id just gotten the 2 1/2 inch for an extra $100.

Trust me, its worth the extra pocket change, even for the fuel consumption improvement alone, let alone the nice sound.

No more Taxi sound !

Welcome to the forum.

A 2.5 inch Mandrel bent system (such as Redback) is the way to go. My system was only $50 more than a stocko one and much, much nicer.

Make sure it's mandrel bent as this ensures the pipe is actually 2.5 inches at each bend, rather than less than at each bend if bent under normal processes.

Most go for the muffler in the centre plus the smaller resonator at the rear.

All the best with it.

Agree with everything he says!!!

From memory for my wagon it was $380 including fitting. With the standard tip I think it was $320 all up. Sedans are a bit cheaper too.

Redback 2.5" system with front muffler and rear resonator will give you what you want - all for under $400 fitted.
