Of the hitchcock variety!
We have recently found a couple of these feathered friends... Are getting rather aquinted. It started off with just a random call being heard from the trees, this progressed to sitting on the window sill, which then moved onto eating the bugs/spiders around the windows, they then got weird and now constantly fly AT the window and sit on the ledge tapping it. I cleared the bugs and cobwebs etc from that side of the house, yet they still do it... All at 6am! Its like someone is trying to smash the window they hit it that hard! Short of shooting the little blighters, any one have any idea how we can get rid of them? Last edited by creative; 22-10-2012 at 09:06 AM. |

G'day Creative, they're own reflections in the window is what they're attacking lol! Is it the only window they are attacking? Maybe cover the window from the outside for a while? Call Wires they may be able to help.
cheers,Maka

Agreed with the reflection thing, that's all they're doing.
Bloody weird looking bird though, looks like a mix between 5 or 6 different types.

What sort of picture did you put up in the window? We've had problems with birds hanging around windows and car mirrors, and flying into them, and other than temporarily putting up newspaper until they move on the following has worked pretty well:
- printing out a large, black silhouette of a native eagle or hawk with outstretched wings (view from below) - a cardboard cutout of the above, suspended from fishing line so it swings in the breeze (they can grow accustomed to a static image) From your pics it looks like they might be Green Catbirds (Ailuroedus crassirostris) which are a type of bowerbird, although these ones don't build bowers. They can make a strange wailing call like a cat or crying baby or a tick/chip sort of sound.

Don't have these in my area, but i believe they are native but are actually known to kill other small birds and feed them to their young. They are not a threatened species.. they'd be getting the treatment from the sluggy if it was me.

They are after their own reflection. What you could do is get some frosted clear contact. Put a strip at the bottom window on the outside. This will stop them sitting on the ledge and bashing the window after the reflection. Once they gone remove contact from glass.

No shooting needed... Well thats not what i was saying at 6am but thats another story.
Put the webbing up over half the window (just to see)...Harder than i thought when there is no way to attach it, and they moved to the other part of the window to attack. Put a bit more up and they seemed to of stopped. The test will be at 6am! |

ha.. atleast you have got smallish type birds.
i`ve got 2 crows that have an obsession with their reflections and attack every window in my house (but mostly the sliding doors) and have been at it for most of the year. when they are not attacking my house their next door attacking the old hilux in the paddock. i have tried making up shade cloth screens to put infront of the windows but they just knock them away, they have wrecked some of the fly screens as well and even knock the flyscreens out of the frames. there used to be quite a few crows living around here that never caused any problems, but now there just seems to be this pair of crazy buggers. i think the rest have moved on to get away from them.

You're lucky to have wildlife like this around. Even if a bit inconvenient at the moment.
Try going somewhere like Bejing. Not a bird to be seen! |

Small update,
The mesh worked but the birds moved to the kitchen window now. Decided to print off some random patterns and colours onto A4 at work and will plaster the windows until they bugger off. Stupid things! |
