Default Paint Protection on ST?

Put the deposit down on my new car this morning...the 'customer care' lady was rambling on about paint protection and leather protection, yada yada yada...made a compelling argument for it. $1695 was the price they gave for paint, leather, vinyl and fabric.

I'm not really concerned with the fabric, leather, vinyl stuff (it will have covers over the seats anyway), but I'm curious on the paint protection as to whether that's worth it either. She rattled off something about if a panel is damaged and you replace it three years down the track it will look out of place.

So, worth it? Or not?

Spend a fraction of that on good care care products (which will do a better job than the stuff the Ming Mole wants you to buy anyway) and do it yourself.

Then put the rest towards beer.

Beautiful! Was thinking that, but having never purchased a new car...I'm a little 'naive' for want of a better word.

Lol @ Ming Mole! That spent on beer would have me sorted for the rest of my life and probably then some! :P

The good old paint protection bimbo. They always palm you off to some sheila (usually dressed like a prostitute) who tries to scam you into paint protection, leather protection, blinker fluid protection etc. It's just an easy way for the dealership to make money on top of the purchase. Some dealerships sit you down with the same sheila who then tries to sell you accessories.

Ill go against the grain, my missus recently purchased a new corolla and had it on her car. But it goes one further if the panel is damaged (small) for $88 the whole panel is repaired. Thing is the paint is pearl white. So we got it.
But if it wasnt for that we probably wouldnt have got it.

As the others have said, don't bother with the dealership paint protection.
Either get some quality products and look after it yourself, or get a good detailer to do it for you.

why would you possibly need them to be any more supportive than they already are, and extra 30mm of padding would make the ST recaro's fell like you have an anaconda around your mid section

plus if youre going to dogs in the car you may want to look at something that will be easy to clean

Why are you taking it so personally? If she wants to have sheepskins and dogs in her car, it's her business.

Im taking it personally ??? hardly !

Just dont like to see people throw $$$ away, problem with sheep skin is it pulls in moisture sweat drool etc and all that leads to a very smelly seat cover, and sheep skin is hard to clean without it falling apart its also a pain to remove the covers if you're cleaning weekly

another problem with sheep skin covers, especially over leather seats is it will leave a dirty waxy deposit on the factory seat that is difficult to remove

imo some thick cloth throw overs for where the dogs sit can be removed easily and put in the washing machine would be a better option

I've never had that problem with sheepskin, or seat covers in general. :\

As for the $$$, despite the fact it's a hot hatch, it's still my A-B car and I'm 5'2", so I don't think the 'anaconda' will be an issue.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's been appreciated.

Definitely pass on the paint protection, seen quite a few cars with it and it's a P.I.T.A to look after. It's supposed to protect the paint from the nasties, like sap and bird poo etc but if you don't get that stuff off quick smart, forget it, you'll practically need a respray especially on a dark coloured car and metallic finishes

When we bought my partners WT Fiesta they handed us over to an "after sales care specialist" who was a mid 20's blonde girl who tried to sell us Tint, paint protection, interior protection (scotch guard....).

I told her she'd have to beat my friend's price on tint

"Oh, how much is that?"

A carton of beer

"........."

On a related note... Headlight covers, seat covers, steering wheel covers, etc.... why are you preserving YOUR new car for the next owner to enjoy? Enjoy it yourself and don't treat it like ****.

There are so many conditions connected to the paint protection packages that it makes it a waste of money. If you don't use the specified wash or dont have it inspected periodically, it's void anyways.
Like others have said, spend some time on here learning proper car care techniques and buy yourself some good products. Trust me, you'll have fun and get a lot of satisfaction in doing it yourself.

Congrats on the purchase. Which Brisbane dealer did you buy from and when are you expecting delivery?

The protection packages the dealers offer are a bit of a gimic, but I decided to get interior protection. When I buy the car I want to drive it and not be spending weekends doing my own protection on it!

I would normally agree that it is not worth the money, however 4 years ago when my wife bought a Suzuki swift she had paint protection put on. Have to admit I thought why are we paying for something that you honestly cannot even tell if it is on or not!

4 years down the track you can. Every time I wash it is seems lie it has just been polished.

It doesn't really take that long honestly. And if you're using quality stuff you'll only need to do it anywhere between 1-5 times per year, depending on what you're using, how the car is used etc...

Do you know the name of the 'protection' you paid for. I very highly doubt the dealerships use the stuff that actually works...
Furthermore, I'd be very surprised if the Swift isn't covered in swirls...soft Suzuki paint - you breath on it the wrong way and you'll get some marring!
