Default The New Aussie Monopoly - SA Gets Prized Spots!

Mayfair is now the Barossa Valley, and Park Lane is Adelaide in the new Australian Edition of Monopoly that you could vote online for.

Good going South Aussies!

Full results - http://monopoly.com.au/results.php

It was also on a Ten news break, a mate has captured the report, I believe it could be on its way to Youtube so I'll link to it if it gets there

edit - just did a search, you were talking about the voting Here back in January (before I joined).

Must be something wrong... Shouldnt Mayfair and Park Lane be something in Sydney or Perth, given that they are the most expensive??? LOL

I would suspect it's probably going to be a mistake that will, suprisingly cost sales.

Even the CGI background of the board has a virtual Sydney Harbour!

Oh its no mistake, SA definitely got that many votes!

Although I believe the truth may be coming out as to how South Australia made it to the top.

Can't read that as I'm not a member of the overclockers forum. Can you provide a summary of what it says?
Anyway, my wife works in a winery here in the Barossa and they were sent a weekly reminder by the Barossa Tourism board to vote. Now, that's one winery that has about 15 permanent staff out of 100's of wineries that we have here. Add up all the staff in all the wineries and you'd have a good start. Then we'd have to move on to the thousands of people that live in the Barossa...
That's probably what happened. Sounds to me like they were well organised here!

Apparently, Sydney missed out by 0.6%. Ayres Rock (Uluru) also missed out, and they said that was by 1-3%. This was on the Today show this morning.

There's been a lot of news coverage of a new Australian Monopoly game this week. Apparently there was an online vote to see which Australian locations got onto the game board, but the first I heard about it was when the results were announced. Anyhoo, it turns out that South Australia did particularly well, scoring nearly half of the total votes, and Adelaide itself scoring 22.95% of the nearly 17 million votes cast. Wait a second, 17 million votes is a pretty good voter turnout for a country of ~20M people! Looks like the geek community strikes again. I don't really care which locations won, but future organisers of online polls might want to consider filtering multiple votes from the same IP address, with one guy in that thread claiming to have cast 110,000 votes by himself!

I don't ever think it was allowing one vote per IP per day.

I believe it went on some cookie system, that when you voted each day it gave you a cookie which then prevented further voting.

Somehow the voting applications which were made got around this.

Probably something simple like just deleting the cookie.

Yep marketing gurus strike again......

And when it fails to sell to 90% of Australians because it has as much relevence as the pommy or yank versions they will make some excuse or another as to how slack Australians are.

It is as silly as making it all NSW or Vic or QLD or whatever......

So by the sounds of it, a couple of geeks wrote a small program to vote every second on the monopoly site.

And Milton Bradley failed to place controls around the voting process. So now we have an aussie version of monopoly which wont be "relevant" to 70% of the Australian population.

And Im sure the Sunshine Coast in QLD won't be happy it's the cheapest locale on the board - nor the fact it appears to be a blantent advert for Australia Zoo.

Good one Milton Bradley.....

For those in Adelaide, page one & two of today's advertiser has a little writeup on it.

And if you watch Channel 10 News tonight, you may see me on there talking about the whole "rigged voting" thing
