G'day all,
I find it hard to swallow that a bike rider can do a 10 second pass with just the usual protective gear and if your car creeps into a 11.99 pass you get told to go home (Perth Motorplex Street Meets) and come back with a four point harness,tailshaft loop etc. I think with todays modern cars fitted with Disc brakes all round,Airbags,ABS,DSC etc. shouldn't have to comply with this rule, my objection to this rule is mainly I don't want disfigure my car for a unfair and outdated rule. Does anyone know how to get the rule looked out by ANDRA with a view to modernising it. Or am I kicking a

So how are people fitting 4 point harneses ?
Where are you mounting them to and where are you allowed to without a cage ? |

Is wearing a helmet safety overkill? If you have a modern car you won't need one right? Where should the cutoff point be for extras like harnesses, cages, loops etc? 10.99, 9.99?
The line must be drawn somewhere and fortunately drag racing errs on the side of caution. Not many injuries in drag racing accidents and for that we must thank ANDRA. Hopefully all the safety gear fitted to race cars never needs to be used. |

Paccy's full tube car hitting the wall at about 300km/h on Sunday. if it was a normal street car even at half speed, u would have seen alot more damage, but because of all the ANDRA rules in place, the driver came out uninjured. if ur doing 10's ur doing about 120mph nearly 200km/h.

^^ as ive said on another forum and good old FB, it's a testament to the safety built into these cars ... i still find it unbelievable when people complain about getting kicked out of the drags when they run a 10 in their street car.
Yes the street cars are 2-3 seconds slower .. but at 130-140mph they will come off a lot worse than this (PAC) car at 180mph

im running in street fighter (13.00 - 16.99) at Sydney Dragway and even i run a 4 point harness, full suit, gloves and shoes (im looking to build a SS/BB car in the next 2 years) as well as 2 fire extinguishers (i'd rather be safe than sorry).
Helmets are compulsory for a reason even in a 2003 xr8. i really think cages etc should be enforced from 11.00 not 10.99 as some of the cars i've seen and ran against in S/ST can get pretty hairy. like i said better to be safe than sorry.

Speaking of cages, what rules do you have to adhere to when building one? ie what diameter tubing/wall thickness, welding etc...

It's all in the ANDRA (or CAMS if building for circuit use) rule books.
That or go to a recognised cage builder, they know what they're doing (ot are supposed to).

tail shaft loop must be no than 150mm behind the front uni .i race a ba ute in s/st and at 118mph if you went over on your roof i would prefer to be in a harness.i have also rolled a rally car at high speed .after an accident like that you appreciate saftey rules. you can mount the bottom of the harness to original mounts and leave the lap sash there for the street weld two nuts to 75mm-75mm plates and they will slide into the panel behind the seat for top bolts leave the harness behind the seat for the street you wouldnt know its their

My harness in a clip in one, so all that's left is eye-bolts, which you'd have to seriously look for.
