Germaine Greer has renewed her attack on dead naturalist Steve Irwin, reiterating her belief that he abused animals and calling his portrait in the National Portrait Gallery "not altogether manly".
Where does this freako get off? |

Go Germaine. I am on her side. I find the whole Irwin thing terribly annoying, especially his daughter. Bindi is a name you would give to a pet. Every week they are trying to find a new way to get money out of people. There is almost a nightly Irwin segment on the TV news.

I dont think he abused animals, but he did torment the crap out of some of them.
I use to watch his doccos & say :''all the snake wants to do is get the hell away from this dingbat'' But he is now a hero so I dont think Germaine Greer is gonna change that no matter what she says ..

Its obvious that Germaine is jealous that Steve did a better job of handling snakes then she ever did.

There must be something about a guy who tried his best to make this world a better place that makes some people bitter and angry. I'd be more ****ed at the people making millions and billions of dollars out of destroying this world, rather than some guy who made some money purely to put back in to, and fund his conservations efforts. Esspecially because he did it from the ground up and was always driven by his love for animals and the planets. Or you can listen to some squeaky old ***** who has nothing better to do than try and get herself into the spotlight by saying something moronic every few months. Each to their own. |

I've not seen the Irwin family anywhere since Steve's death. I'm not a Steve Irwin fan or a Germaine Greer fan. At the same time, I don't go out of my way looking for a reason to whinge about things.
If I can go however many months without seeing the Irwin family anywhere, ads being the exception, than so can anyone who generally doesn't want to see them. It's not that hard. The man's dead, leave him be. He died doing what he loved and if you could ask him now if he had a problem with that, I can't see him holding the grudge. It was bound to happen yet he wasn't worried. His daughter grew up in that world and knew how much her father loved that industry. She's too young to go out wrestling crocodiles so she's doing something she enjoys while trying to continue a certain aspect of his legacy. She's nine years old, she loves her dad, leave the kid alone. As for Germaine Greer, I'll be damned if I can work out why she's all over our papers all the time. She's supposed to be Australian, isn't she? Yet she moved overseas and continues to slag off Australia? So cut her off from the country. Love it or leave it, I say. She's a self-righteous, attention seeking old mole with nothing good to say about anything and shouldn't be given the opportunity to voice her opinion for exactly that reason. This line is going to cause me a lot of greif, but if people are so openly bagging someone for what they do then I'll say it. Some claim Peter Brock was a wife beater. If that's the case, then he's nothing more than a lowly parasite who didn't deserve a moment of praise. But as soon as the man is dead and it's all over the papers, every other dead legend is forgotten so that we can all now praise the man they called 'Perfect' in the Herald Sun. Some because they were a genuine fan, some because it appears to be the right thing to do. If people don't want to see Steve Irwin's wife (I've forgotten her name) on the news in tears, everyone should stop dragging his name through the mud for this or that. I dare say, being the man she married and started a family with, that she loved him and that it hurts her to hear these things being said by those who have nothing better to do than put down a man who can't defend himself. It's the action of the weak to pick a fight with those who can't defend. I don't wish to hear anymore about Steve Irwin or his family, therefore I don't. Until I log on here. I'd be more than happy to see everyone looking for something to whinge about to go somewhere else and cry into their pillow than to continously flood these forums with their useless dribble. Steve Irwin is dead, not everyone liked him. Germaine Greer is a cranky old mole. That's the same conclusion we come to everytime these topics are brought up. What more needs to be said?

I never liked Peter Brock either, but at least his family have some dignity. They dont go releasing a talking Brockie doll and make money from the US talk show circuit. Brock achieved more in his life. All Irwin did was take over his parent's zoo.

When I was living in Pomgolia I would see the old cow in the papers bagging out the Sydney Olympics. She believes that she is the all knowing authority of all things Australian. I'm sure Fleet St press knock on her door for her opinion.
