Hmmm...I do work for the building that the nsw government departments were before they moved. In the govco carpark where the fleet of state cheufur driven cars parked I was working and one rolled up, front end smashed in, steaming out from the rad. The driver got out laughing and another one replied "that's the 5th one this month". It made me a tad annoyed to say the least. I'd be happier if the government in general gained popularity by spending money in the right places, as opposed to pointless videos etc.

"Tax dollars"...?
All I know is that on our local TV news tonight, they said the federal government is cutting $2 million from local legal aid programs which everyone can access for legal advice, etc. At the same time as the Indonesian dictator...sorry, "President"...is out here on a visit as our leaders fawn over him...the leader of a country that we have to hand out around $600 MILLION a year in "foreign aid" (and let's not even mention what they're up to in West Papua...). "Aid" to a country that...while apparently desperately needing our foreign aid cash...can afford to spend around EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR on their military... Your tax dollars at work indeed... |

Deadly serious. The story goes that the Dept of Finance paid $40k for that cinematic masterpiece.

Thought this thread was an OK place to post this story for comment, as it will cost nearly $8.5k for every 6 signs to be changed to a skirt-wearing traffic icon.
Ridiculous. I find it hard to understand how these things are even up for discussion let alone get the go ahead with a budget. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-0...ossing/8330560 When I first heard this earlier today I thought it was a ****take. |

Reminds me of Google and Facebook's headquarters - only 100,000 times smaller.
Packed to the rafters with Beta's and cupcakes. They see a spider and the fire-alarm gets activated and building evacuated. |

I find it funny when they bring up the dinner thing. In my industry I have been to a few corporate events. They are always "sponsored " by who ever is trying to sell something somehow, or are trying to get a better deal from their contractors or whatever. There's always some form of agenda. I only get dragged along (I use the term loosely, high end meal with free booze, in work time...) because the management people want real world opinions. I always choose to sit at the table with the other plebs and let all the management people sit together on their own table to talk work. Myself and the other plebs don't talk work and try to rack up the bill as hard as possible. It doesn't happen often, no real world opinions are ever voiced, so the expensive afternoon to some company proves fruitless. The government departments do similar things also with a similar result. I have done work for the nsw government, adhc, still do work for nsw electoral and the audit office. It's all the same.

I like how angry all the conservatives are about this. It's privately funded (or at least not directly tax/rate-payer funded), the Committee for Melbourne is a private entity.
So, financing aside, who here is purely *angry* about seeing a female tell them what they can & can't do at an intersection? I'll bet you all have male GPS voices... |
