I don't know about anyone else but I was hooked on Man vs. Food when it was showing on 7Mate and just recently I've been wondering if there are any restaurants or eaterys here in Australia like the ones the host visited on that show.
I did get told that there was one called Carolina Kitchen in Coorparoo but wanna know if there are any more.

Hogs Breath is loosely based on an American theme (The one here in Mildura has American licence plates on all the walls and 50's American decor situated throught the establishment).

Haha I saw one a while ago.
They were pretty yank! There aren't too many with those eating challenges like in USA - I think there just isn't tha same market as over there. Generally Aussies are a bit more health conscious,. |

I've heard of a couple of restaurants dotted about Sydney that have a 1kg steak challenge but nothing close to the extent of the Man v Food shows. That and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives explain why Americans are so large (not that we're that far behind) the food is magnificently decadent and the portion sizes in all the places that I've been to in the States are ridiculously large. I had a seafood sampler 'starter' (they insist on calling their mains, 'entrees' for some reason) that would have been in excess of 500g of fried seafood.
Having to go to Houston for work near the end of this year, if I have time, I might see if I can find any of the places they've visited. |

Carolina Kitchen is a must.
I crave their ribs on a daily basis. Blue Smoke in the Valley is good too.

Been going to TGI Fridays for nearly a decade, maybe more, they make very consistent nice quality american style food with the ambience to match
the one in Doncaster was the best in my opinion, but it's being relocated to the plaza and won't be open until later in the year. Just noticed you're in bris, forget it heh

Can someone please explain what's the appeal of American food? I don't get it personally, is it the enormous portions? These are the people that add dye to their cheese so that it's the colour of highlighter orange, and then put it into an aerosol can so you can spray it onto your sandwich!

There is a place called something like "Schnitzel house" at Gladesville in Sydney. They do a challenge of a massive schnitzel, can't remember what size, potatoes and one litre of beer. If you finish that in one hour you get a free desert, like you would need it after that, a t shirt and your picture on the wall of fame

TGI fridays is all about the Ultimate cocktails. Japan had an interesting go at it and I got absolutely sh'tfaced with the cocktail waiter and some mates in Prague a couple of years ago. Me and the missus got free dinner at the one in London but cant remember why. Its pretty bad that I can resist TGIF if I see one.
Hogs breathe have pretty good steaks but the sides suck and I find lonestar to be the opposite. Only the Americans can do what they do though. Slightly off topic but we were in a bar in Queenstown whilst they were filming the TV show Three Sheets. Free drinks all night FTW.
