Peter lost a lot of credability when he put his name to a tarted up Sigma and also a model of the Victa mower range. His cross dressing brother didnt help his image. Peter did endeavour to promote driver education and must be applauded for that.

So you saying the Peter Wherrett Sigma was a dud?
Damn I am glad I never bought one

Never worried me about things like that, we all need to make a living anyway we can (legally, yes putting your name on a Sigma, no matter how disgusting, was legal).
A lot of celebrities put their name to a product for a few bucks, dosnt mean that the product is any better, but it may lift the image a little

We can't forget the AU Falcon...

Its a real shame we don't have many decent automotive authorities in this country.

RIP Peter.

Yep Peter Wherrett was the TG of the 70's, I enjoyed his shows very much as has been said there was nothing like it then.
As for putting his name on the Sigma why not ? supported local industry importantly. For the purchaser it had far more cred than say a Carla Zampatti Laser

RIP PW you were a character thats for sure !, he and Evan Green have done a far better job in the motoring media than the present imo.

Peter, along with the show he hosted, were pioneers in the field of televised automotive journalism and without his efforts (and the support of the ABC) it is unlikely that we would have the ones we have now.

May he rest in peace.

Regards
Russ

It was Peter himself who was the cross dresser, not the brother.

Got to wonder wether he will be buried in a suit or a dress.

Never got to watch Torque, way before my time, but it would be interesting to see the reviews he did on Fords of the era. I've heard he wasn't afraid to give any manufacturer a bad review if he didn't like what he drove, and that he was blackballed by a few manufacturers because of it.

both he and his brother were cross dressers, as was his father according to 2UE today. Not that that should matter but was the first thing mentioned when reporting his death

Those Sigmas actually didnt look half bad. We had one traded in at our work a few years ago. Good interior too.

so one suspects a dress. Still I was fan in his younger TV days.

After seeing you avatar, I couldn't help adding these 3 pics, from the two hundred I took, at the Summer Nats at Minneapolis in August 2008.

A great man and his TV show was the highlight of an impressive career

He ruffled a few feathers by constantly pushing his ideas on primary safety.Chassis dynamics and driver training. If a car had poor handling and brakes it would cop a spray for sure

RIP

Evan Green contributed to the Supercar Scare, therefore denying the Australian motoring public of the Ford Falcon Phase 4, Holden GTR XU-2 and the Charger V8...yep great man he was...I'm sure some of his other articles were good but that one did hurt muscle car fans!

RIP Peter
