Default Fuel usage roughly per 100km ?

Hi guys , I was just wondering what the fuel ratio is roughly supposed to be for an standard auII xr6 vct ? . I thought i read somewhere about it being somewhere around 12ltrs/100km to 16ltrs/100km ?.

I haven't had a chance to take it for a run yet on a long trip, so i don't really know what it's like economy wise on long trips , but around town im lucky to get 70km from 14ltrs latelly ($20 worth of premium unleaded). ?

I remember when i first got the car the economy was ok/nb , then i added 2 extra CIA intakes to the airbox and a small scoop for the snorkle , the economy improved and so did performance slightly when planting the foot... then i inserted a k&n filter and switched the transmission to power mode , huge imrovement in throttle response when booting it ....but - latelly i have just been cruising around in power mode #1 and it still seems to be sucking heaps of fuel ?, i havent bothered checking the map sensor yet as the car runs hard as , no problems with performance/idle/temp or anything , just sucking heaps of fuel i think . ?

I havent reset the ecu since doing any changes, im thinking of trying it just to see if there's any improvement , not that it really bothers me too much , but any saving is better than none ;) .

it will almost definately be the map sensor.

i used to get 18l/100k in the city with dead map. now its about 13-14 city, and below 8 on hwy (havent dont full hwy run yet, but will update in 2 weeks, after i get back from QLD... i rekon tweed is a fair goal (Ballina was my previous record).

my mum's VCT Fairlane gets around 13.6L/100km and thats hauling extra weight too. thats a combination of freeway/city driving.

my standard I6 gets about 12.2L/100km (by calculation. comp reads 14.2) cause i do a heap of freeway driving. when i purchased my car, the computer read 17.0L/100km. i just reset the ecu and drive lightly.

I got the vct in a forte &, I get 200km's to a full tank on petrol and 300km's to a full tank on gas.
it doesnt seem to matter how I drive it the consumption stays the same. It used to blow a stack of smoke on petrol (petrol smoke, not oil), but now thats stopped and it just dies altogether when you put your foot to the floor.
Theres a serious problem somewhere, but the Auto electritian hooked up his comp and there were no error codes except for the abs!

Gee and i though my economy was bad ! ..lol ..

with your economy sooooooo bad , and your problem being what it was , to what its gone to , imo it almost sounds like your engine is running really rich and not enough air at high rpm .. your problem definately sounds more like a map sensor problem maybe.

hmmm , its a strange 1 , im gonna try reset my ecu first anyway and see if i get any improvement.

The AU 1 wagon on gas uses 14 litres per 100 on gas, gentle mixed driving, a little less on the highway.

The AU2 sedan uses 10 litres per 100 on average, but that dipped to under 10 with gentler driving.

I haven't done a full highway test on petrol and wont either as it's getting converted to gas in 2 weeks!

It should use less than 14 because the wagon has a weight penalty, and also revs 100 more at 100kmph.

Our wagon consisently gets between 14 & 15 around town (avg probably 14.8), but it gets around 9.5 on the highway (cruising at 115 GPS verified speed).

I am another one of those people who log everything mostly for tax as I am a sales rep but I take it a bit seriously too. This is FY 04-05 ending 30-6-2005.

My figures might give you all a bit of a shock but if you rep Sydney and I mean CBD it's going to cost more in tolls and parking anyway!

Distance Travelled - 19,835 km
Fuel Used - 2987 litres
Km/l - 6.64
l/100 km - 15.06
Total Fuel Cost - $ 3,343
Cost / km - 16.856 cents per km
Avg Fuel Cost - $ 1.119 per litre

Highway cruising I get 11L/100km
outer metro - granny driving I get 13-14L/100km
outer metro - inner west driving - not gentle I get 15-16L/100km
inner city - inner west driving - Drive it like you stole it - I get 18L/100km
heavy load/towing - inner city - traffic jam I get arouns 20L/100km

This is Sydney driving ... running straight LPG ... and I am a courier driver (in other words I go out of my way to harrass turbine-charged taxi drivers ... as they deserve it).

I normally get 500km from 75L ... but seeing as my fuel gauge is on a permanent holiday .... I don't really travel further than 500km without filling.

S3 F/Ghia

Around town 300 - 350kms per tank. I was horrified until I worked out that 99% of my city driving is within 5kms of my home, so the car is always in accelerate/brake....accelerate/brake mode.

I went down to Kempsey (1200km round trip) a couple of weekends ago. My driving was somewhat "spirited" and I got 9.6L/100kms.

I thought that was ok given that I was chasing a 130kph gopher for a couple of hours on the Fri night and a different gopher for about three hours on the Sunday return trip.

I get about 17l/100k on gas around town. Bloody poor if you ask me, I read on another forum though that if the thermostat is crook ie locked open or opening at a lower than normal temp, the 02 sensor thinks that the engine is cold and the computer puts more fuel in (like a choke). They recommend replacing the thermostat and flushing the coolant. I'm going to do it on my wagon this weekend because the temperature is running below normal and the radiator hasn't beem flushed since I got the car.

It's amazing how things work out, isn't it?

I reckon that I've paid for a police car or two in my time. I used to be the gopher.... I finally twigged around 20 years ago.

IIRC, I've not had an occasion since (on a trip) when a trail blazer has not appeared and dragged me along with them.

To all the quicks out there..."thanks a million" (well, at least a couple of thousand, lol.)

Sorry guys, as was pointed out elsewhere, I've been using the wrong formula for my calcs. I usually convert everything to mpg so I've never been concerned about L/100kms.

True figure for the above trip was 10.02L/100kms.

I got 9.6L/ 100k with a full load recently, and i usually get approx 12L / 100k around town. Which i thought wasn't too bad.

I usually only get an average of 300-350k's and I thought it was my MAP sensor playing up but then I filled up on Boost98 for 3 fills and everytime I've filled it's shown 999 on the dash. Freeway was an average of 4.9l/km and locally was around the 7.5l/km mark. But now with my usual fuel in (Mobil8000) it's back to 300-350k's.

Sounds like the dash module has a problem to me! 999k DTE? 4.9L/100km?

No I don't think so. If it were playing up, it would show 999k every single time I put fuel in but it doesn't. It only does when I fill up on the Boost98. As soon as I threw the 8000 in, it went back to normal reading. Also, the fact that I filled up with the Boost98 on the G&D dyno day and it lasted me this long, tells me it's correct.

16-19l/100 depending on the type of gas used. BP is the best, usually getting me over 400km a tank (73ltrs)
