Thought of this tonight. A mid-engined falcon .Someone should make one. Put a v12 in it. It would be so much more balanced and just great. Whats every one think?

would be an abomination with everything ruined. mid engined cars are designed that way not modified that way. there would be nowhere to sit and would understeer like a shopping trolley, wouldnt suit the bodyshape nor do an engine justice.

A ute would be ideal to start with, maybe you could fit a dry sumped I6 behind the cabin. Low enough to still have some semblance of a tray, straight into a transaxle, IRS.
I'm pretty sure there's a blue VE ute with a big block in the tray. |

A little research would show people why mid engined set up is reserved for two seater sports cars only.
The position of the engine forward of the front wheels precludes the use of a rear seat and a suitable Ute tray. |

now add the rear doors and high rear roofline and see how it looks.
Arguably the mustang is adding a mustang to a Gt40 chassis not mid mounting an engine in the middle of a falcon. Id also say the ute is a rear mount not mid. JP |

If that ute is mid mounted, what do you have to do to be rear mounted? Have your engine in a trailer?

Have had a stock BA 6 on the race scales with driver and 40l fuel and was very suprised at how well balanced it is for a street car. Hope to get the balance that good with all the weight removed and redistributed.

Putting a mid engine in a four-door sedan is tricky. It's easier to put a rear engine in one:

Well Ferrari did a 2+2 Dino as well as the Mondial but it seems the idea is pretty forgettable. There doesn't seem to be any logical reason anymore to achieve 2 row seating with a mid engine when you can achieve similar weight balance with better engine placement and rear mounted transaxle.

I have thought previously that something like this would go nicely in a ute tray.
 I doubt it would be very quick, but who cares when you have a 27 litre (1,650 cubes) V-12  Yup, each cylinder has more displacement than a riceburner

What about a trayback ute with a flat engine mounted in front of the rear axle. Could probably squeeze a Testarossa flat 12 in there.
Or make ya own by whacking a couple of I6's together.

I recall watching a similar holden wheel stand ute doing a display at the v8's at sandown one year, it didnt brake late enough, front end bounced and it fell over in the grandstand at the end of the front straight, needless to say it wasnt the best handling machine, but overly amusing

Always dreamt of doing this! If I ever won the lotto I would attempt to build a mid engine GT Coupe. using the FG styling.

Started a mid mount 289 Mk1 Cortina years ago as rally cross car..
They changed the RULES when nearly finished .. I had V drive from boat with engine on sub frame in front of diff. No rear seats..
