Default Just how much flogging can a Falcon 6 take?

Got a question for everyone and undoubtedly there will be as many answers as grains of sand in the world but I will ask it anyway.

Just how much flogging can a properly maintained EL Falcon 6 take? I ask because I find myself 'thrashing' the crap out of my car to make it move most days, probably hitting between 2600 and 3000 RPM each time I take off, maybe hitting 3500 rpm on odd occasion. I realise this isn't very scientific but I worry because the damn thing vibrates like a bastard and it sounds like I'm wringing its neck!

I maintain it properly, head gasket was done 10,000 km ago (150,000 HG problem!) and I do oil, oil filter and air filter changes every 8000 though I am considering doing it more often. I've had it for about 14-15 months now and it doesn't show any signs of dying on me but I do wonder just how much flogging can a Falcon 6 take before it packs its bags and goes to the caryard in the sky!

Oh no, 3500rpm! You will break it for sure. Try 5500 rpm, in the lower gears, and then see how you go! 3500 is mid rev range, so if that's what you call thrashing it, then I must be murdering mine every time I drive it.

Default a fair bit i think.

I've been handing my EA some decent abuse since I got it. Usually accelerate to 110kph in third round the corner from my house every day (near 4000 rpm), but I do alot of country km's so I guess the motor is kind of used to it. If you always change your oil @ regular intervals and don't over-rev it, it should be fine.

I typically tend to shift @ 2500 - 3000 when driving normally... Been doing it for nearly 2 years & no complaint. 3500 isn't what I'd call thrashing it.

Don't take my advice though... I could just be lucky with mine...

It may not seem like a lot but it sounds bloody awful at those revs and not to mention how bad it feels. Its like someone taking a giant vibrator and shoving it under your ИИИИ.

I've only taken it out to 4500 a half dozen times and only hit 5000 probably once or twice. It wasn't enjoyable on any occasion. Very bad.

Oh and the Ford manual recommends staying below 4000 RPM to 'prevent premature engine wear' or words to that effect. Most people who ride with me comment on just how bad it sound at high revs. Maybe its designed like that, who knows.

I give my car so much more than that! I’ve had it go up to about 5500rpm a couple of times and it never sounds bad really. Sounds like your motor might be in a pretty bad state, give it a good clean maybe.

how can giving it a good clean help :S? did know oil and dirt on the engineblock effect the high rpm performance

I have an EA serries 2 MPI auto and i flogg the absolute crap out of it every day, ive been trying to destry the engine and transmission in it for 2 years. i have another engine and near new auto to put in it when it gives up. I change gears manually like you shouldnt and rev her out to 6000 rpm all the time. they can take a lot of beating, but when something wants to give up on you it will!!

Same. And its an auto!!!! :eclipsee_

Hell, stall doesnt even "lock up" till 3000rpm's in mine so anything below that is redundant as far as I'm concerned.

Mine sees 5500rpm frequently. 4500-4900 take off from most traffic lights; quick downshifts to cut ahead of peak hour traffic; lots of hard cornering at high rpm.

I wouldnt worry dude!

Falcon 6 can take a flogging, just watch the temprature guage. (and speedo)

When I drove the EF every set of lights gets taken to redline, or pushed hard to the speed limit, unless there are other cars in front of me, or the cops around. Every motorway onramp its redlined.

Also around some parts it was manually shifted, but never put it 2>1 while moving above 10kmh, unless you are on the throttle at around 40kmh or less.

Pfffft 3500 is nothing. Mine sees redline all the time. It's the only way to tell it's a V8 through the stock exhaust.

Wow. I thought I was a leadfoot. I slam the foot down and can even get the car to hit the 5000rpm redline (it's an auto). Mine sounds awesome at 3000 - 4000 rpm and that's the point where I really start to feel the torque of the engine coming through.

I no my car takes a ИИИИ load of flogging, mines redlined about a dozen times and only then i start to feel abit scared.. otherwise when i punch it, it sounds good. However when taking my mums car over 3500rpm seems like its gunna blow up. Doesnt even go anywhere just sounds bloody loud.
On another note, when i thrash it off the line like foot to the floor i have to lay off the accelerator in order for it to change out of first, is this normal?

May be a worn transmission, reluctant to get out of first.
When I want it to shift flooring in drive I normally back off a bit as well.

Do you happen to have changed the diff ratio or rolling diameter

On my car i changed the rims i dunno if that may have made a difference, but nothing else was changed. If i kept my foot to the floor im sure itd bounce off the rev limiter lol, but it sounds healthy when its revving at high revs, everything must be all loose.

If your car is vibrating mid 3000RPM I would get it checked out man, something is obviously rooted bigtime. Its not an EL but my AU XR6 gets rev-limited almost every time I go driving, and ive owned it for almost a year now and she still goes as hard as ever

i get a slight wierd feeling in the car between exactly 2400 and 2500 rpm. anywhere below or above sounds fine, but it just seems that when its in that groove its got some harmonic frequency making sound/feel wierd.
