Hey guys I just want a few opinions please.
As most of you are aware I moved to NZ last year and was unable to bring the Ghia with us.(stupid kiwi laws) Anyways we are currently driving an EF monty which is pretty plan. One of the local yards here has a S2 Monty Ghia in white with all the Tickford options leather interior basically same as our previous one. It has 240klms on the clock so is on the high side. It is overall good condition for it's age and klms and doesn't appear to have been flogged to hard in its life. Anyway long story short they have offered me 4k for the EF which owes me 3k and want 8k for the ghia (had 9k on it) so basically 4k change over. Now over here in the local market I have found a few with say 150k on em and are asking 10k+ for em. So what are ya thoughts guys? Am I better off paying the extra say 3k for one with lower klms? As I said its fairly high klms but is in pretty good nick. Say 8 out of 10. Thanks John |

AU's can last a very very long time (there are still a lot of AU taxis here in Melboune, plenty of which are still on the original engine), but, assuming I had enough $$$, I myself would probably spend that little extra to get a lower kms car, more for peace of mind than anything else.....higher kms can mean more parts closer to wearing out.....
That said, if you're saying the car is in 8 out of 10 condition, it should be alright!!! Have you taken it for a test drive?

No I haven't driven it yet.
I pick it up on Sat for the weekend so will have plenty of time to do a couple of hundred klms in it to see how it drives. |

No too bad a deal on offer there. 18 months ago I traded my V8 EF Fairmont (absolute minter) on an AUII XR8 Rebel, and they gave me 4k for the EF.

Just get the car thoroughly checked with compression test and all.
If you had to do an engine change over, you'd still be in front money wise. Up to you though. All the best with the deliberations. GK

Yeah the engine's not a worry with those kms, as GK says you can put a new motor in for a few hundred dollars. The issue might be all the other bits and pieces, drivetrain and otherwise, that will start to wear out with time/kms. I sold mine for 7k-ish, are prices higher over there in NZ? I didn't see too many going for $10k+ when I was selling mine earlier in the year. Still, a looked after 240k car will be better than a neglected 150k car. See how it drives I'd say, and go from there. Good luck!

Mate I bought my Ghia with 340km on the clock, picked it up for steal, checked it over thoroughly first and haven't looked back since! No probs (touch wood) so far, and as said earlier putting in a 2nd hand engine you'll still be ahead on costs. Good luck either way mate! No smoke no worries!

Well we have a bit of an update.
I picked the car up this morning for the weekend. It is now back at the dealers (who I should ad we know fairly well). It seems to have an issue reving when you plant it. It just bogs down and doesn't want to go. It was nearly empty (as in BONE DRY) so I put $30 in her and still no difference. So we are guessing it's just the fuel filter clogged. He will get that done this arvo and replace the plugs and we will try again. |

Just thought I would give everyone an update.
It has some minor issues. The in dash stacker won't load.(Typical bloody AU) Radiator has a leak. No fitting for the lock nuts. Other than that she drives like she should. I had it up on a hoist this morning and she looks nice and tidy underneath and I couldn't find anything alarming except the radiator leak. So as long as he is willing to fix these issues I will buy it I think. |

NZ coppers must be short sighted - look at the size of that rego number!
Looks like it's in reasonable nick. If it has a radiator leak, insist on a new radiator, water pump and complete cooling system flush, and get the transmission checked - if the in radiator auto trans cooler is also leaking, the trans won't have long to live.

i paid 10k for my v8 ghia with 119km on it,there's a lot on trademe between 11 to 14k so sounds reasonably priced.sounds like i had the same problems as you when i brought mine.radiator was poked put a new one in for $200 for memory and just recently have 5 cd's stuck in the headunit.

The bogging down could be dodgy leads and coil pack too. I had the same issue on my old AU six banger and it fixed it right up.
Is it a six or eight John?

I hear ya Col. But we gotta start somewhere.
I am just using this vehicle as a stop gap really. Get my NZ credit rating established. I am not intending on doing anything to this one as I have my heart set on a T3. So this will do for the next say 6 months until the right TS50 comes on the market and I will pass it over to Nel and she can drive it. At least that way she will have a car that I will be happy to drive. : |
