Default What is the best way to sell a car on Ebay that is worth around $4k

What have members found as best result.
My main question is.....List as a classified at say $4500 with best offer, or list as auction, or buy it now with best offer.
I also intend using Gumtree.....other suggestions welcome.
NB....I am a member here, this car is non Ford.

If you want $4000.00 for it I would auction it with a reserve of $4000.00 and have a starting bid of $3000.00 that way if it doesn't reach the reserve you don't sell it for less than you want , or you may get more than the reserve.
If it comes close to the reserve and you are happy to let it go at that you can contact the bidder and see if they still want it at their bid price.

What car is it out of curiosity?

Don't, Ebay fees are absolutely ridiculous, chuck it up on gumtree and carsales. If you present the car honestly with good photos and price it a little lower than others of it's condition it will sell within two weeks

I agree - don't use ebay.
Ebay is now so expensive, at just under 10% fees, their customers are leaving in droves - including me.

Gumtree and carsales will do it for you.

Thanks guys.....
For car sales on Ebay there is a flat fee of $60...plus insertion fee of $8.

On eBay, if you set a reserve price for your car and the reserve isn't met you will incur a $14.95 fee.

If you think it worth $4k it'll probably only sell for $2k so I say auction it with no reserve and a starting bid of $1 That'll get the punters hooked and they'll keep bidding until it's sold

Take what ever you get and don't think about it again.

What I've done previously is to:
- Put in a classified ad for the price I want or a little above, eg. $4500 in your case
- Plan to, and mention this in the add, that I will simply drop the price by $150 per week till someone buys it, so the onus is on potential serious buyers to work out what it is worth to them. Then if they want to low ball you they know they can just wait however many weeks and compete with everyone else who may also consider such a low ball price.
- Admittedly this hasn't always got me the price I want, but then I've never really been selling a perfect example, as if I had a perfect example of something I'd probably keep driving it.
- Only remaining issue is timing the RWC, but as I recall these last about 3 months or 1000 km in QLD?

Can't comment on EBay but a mate of mine who's into cars even more than me reckon's Carsales is still the first place people look, and that pretty much no-one looking for a car won't look on Carsales...

I have sold 3 cars in 12 months and Gumtree was by far the fastest and cheapest, down side every low baller comes out of the wood work.
I set a realistic price lots of photos and plenty of information in the ad.

Agree no vehicle is worth what you think it is, I just reinsured my BF RTV and did it at agreed value of $10,400 as that was the maximum that they would do, market value was only $6,400.

Id put it on Ebay no reserve , with a starting price of the absolute least you'd take for it.
Also use Gumtree and Boostcruising, they're both free, if the cars over 30 years old then Unique Cars sometimes has free ad offers.
And if the cars worth advertising then an ad in carsales, com for $60 could be worth it too.

just put it on carsales. i hate that they charge $65 but its always worked for me.
if you advertise under $3000 its only about $20

ebay and gumtree is full of tyre kickers and people wanting to swap a VS commodore with a locked diff and just needs blue slip

Just have a party. Invite 4000 people. $1 entry. Burn it. Heaps easier.
